Photographer's Note

Its hard to stay away from the mountain photos.!!!
This is again from the summit of Chandrashila, which is known for the panoramic views of the Garhwal Himalayas, and the splendid sunrise views.

Chandrashila(13,500 ft above sea level) is the peak of the Chandrantah mountain, just a kilometer ahead of the highest Kedar- Tunganath(12,500). Tunganath can be reached by a beautiful but stranous 4km trek from Chopta(8,500 ft), the nearest roadhead. You can guess the ascent- 1000 feet per kilometer. However, the entire route is rewarding, with magnificient views of the snow capped peaks, towering against the blue sky. Mules and horses are also available on rent from Chopta, however, nothing can be compared with the joy of trekking in this route.

There are a few staying options in Tunganath, better known as chattis, which provide basic accomodations for an overnight stay. Most of the people who stay in Tunganth for the night usually trek up to Chandrashila early next morning. The trail is a boulder laden track, coiling up the mountains like a mighty python. Its a pretty tough upward ascent, requiring fair amount of endurance. The summit is roughly a rectangular space, approximately 30'* 20' in dimension, and is very very cold and windy. However, the palpitating effort, the effort to withstand the severe cold and wind pays off when the sun rises, painting the larger than life peaks in various colors, as seen in this photo.

Whatever the shot portrays is nothing as compared to the actual view. There's only one word that can describe Chandrashila - heavenly.
