Photographer's Note
The title of this image refers to Gert's comment "So Coca-Cola is now the official sponsor of Swayambunath? And Pepsico has bought Bodnath?" to this upload:
https://www.trekearth.com/gallery/Asia/Nepal/Central/Bagmati//photo1565122.htm
to which I was happy and proud to reply "No Coca-Cola in Pashupathinath":

Varanasi, on the other hand, is full of those dreadful logos, even in places as sensitive as burning ghats.
Two more "boat on the Ganga" themed images in WS.

Ciao Kasia,an interesting post that combines popular traditions with the symbols of globalization. Here too there is the eternal war between Coca and Pepsi as I can see, in Italy Coca dominates and Pepsi is almost impossible to find, even if in my opinion it is better. Three beautiful photos, even the WS with the balloon boat shows that there are not only funeral ceremonies but also other celebrations. Have a good night and thanks,Luciano

Hi Kasia
great to see your pics again. I was away from TE for about 4 months...Varanasi is probably my #1 fav spot I visited in India. Its not everyone's cup of tea, its dirty, gritty, smelly, there are dead bodies being burned (which i witnessed), its a special place indeed. and from a photographers perspective, this is Heaven. I loved it here. but yes, Logos, like the Pepsi sign are all over, all over India too, not just here...what can you do? Looking forward to seeing more shots from you.
cheers

Hi Kasia,
Belas composições da vida cotidiana na India. Aqui podemos observar a enorme quantidade de lenha para as cremações aí, eu suponho. Belo trabalho !!
Parabéns

Hello Kasia,
Thanks for another indirect dedication. Pepsico may be just a minor sponsor of the sacred fires, but Lux (whatever that is, soaps?) seems to have invested heavily in cremation tourism. I like all these photos. The main one is the more obvious Varanasi memory, but WS #1 is a beautiful composition and #2 is slightly absurd. "Until death do us party".
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello Kasia,
I have enjoyed perusing your photographs. There is such a lot to see and absorb.
I cannot help but feel that this setting looks like an Elizabethan theatre, with the balconies surrounding the stage. However, the whole scene is updated by the break for adverts, as the Pepsi cola motif flashes across!
But, what a scene! Like I have never experienced!
Life and death share the stage as equal partners.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Kasia,
Again, it is a good observation. I like how this boat stands out against the other, yellow boats. The typical 'Indian' scene in the bg. provides a good frame for the Pepsi boat.
Best Wishes,
Gy.

Hello Kasia,
There is so much to see in this photo both all around the buildings and along the water with all those people there and the many yellow boat. The blue one in the foreground stands out very well from them all.

Hello Kasia,
Three interesting and beautiful pictures of Varanasi.
The party boat is quite a surprise to me. Over the years, people form an idea of what Varanasi looks like through stories, photos and documentaries and celebrating is not really part of that. At least not the kind of partying that isn't tied to religious affiliation.
The pepsi boat demands attention in the foreground but it is what we see on the bank that is so fascinating.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Kasia,
A good photo showing the clash of cultures, east versus west. Not just the Pepsi ad but also the reddish building at the top which clashes with the old buildings around it. The view is a classic one, with a haze from the funeral pyres wafting around the old buildings.
