Photographer's Note

A ten year old slide taken during a trip to Kyoto. Like all photographers visiting Japan, I wanted to take Geisha portraits: But Geishas are not seen easily on the streets, unless you are lucky to find them. I had just left the Kiyomizu temple when I came across a group of six Geishas. Instead of taking a general picture of all of them together as did most foreigners I decided to ask for their permission to take a few portraits. I had to be extremely fast, and apply all my skills in split seconds.

Merhaba Izzet Bey, this is a lovely portrait shot. Her face is perfectly framed by the shoulder and face of the geisha in front of her. Although her face seems expressionless there is a lot of life and light in her eyes. Good work.

Hi Izzet, Superb portrait of these two geishas. Such an old slide, yiou had little time but the composition, colours and sharpness at right place is fantastic. It seems to me an essence of Japan.

Excellent sharpness and I just love the off-beat framing with the first geisha cut in half. The hanging line of flowers really is the finishing touch in the composition.
