Kyrgyzstan's Future, a photo from Naryn, East

Photographer's Note

This young lad is growing up in the grasslands around Lake Song Kul. It is a herder's lifestyle where his father tends horses and cattle on the summer pastures.

This photograph was taken three days before Kyrgyzstan celebrated their tenth anniversary of independence. This boy is part of the new generation who never knew Soviet occupation.

The boy's family lives in a traditional yurt "tent". To see their home please take a look at one of my favourite pictures: Two Yurts.

I like this one very much. The thing is that both the background and the boy could make good pictures on thier own, but together they are beautiful!

Wonderful portrait that goes well with the title. I like the details of his clothing, and the light and shadows. The background serves as a wonderful symbol of the boy's background described in your note.

Amazing portrait, Jonathan. The eyes are hypnotizing. They get a wonderful light and they give back a magic glow. It all stands in contrast with the pale background and the dark clothing. Great shot, beautiful picture.

Amazing portrate of the boy - it seems you've really got a good rapport with him. I like his open look, confident posture, really good presentation of the dress, the landscape that is home for him and the light that adds drama. Even though my POV on the "Soviet occupation" is totally different;)
