Photographer's Note
Stormy clouds approach from the distant mountain range, their brooding presence illuminated by the low sun. The reflection in the lake looks like mist floating across the water's surface.
A narrow spit of land extends into the body of the lake where a small herd of cattle grazes peacefully. These are the highland summer pastures where herders live in traditional yurts during the warmer months.
To see some more photos of this area and read further notes please see my other postings from Lake Song Kul.

Wow, what a great minimalist shot that holds so many great things:
The use of thirds on the horizontal axis, teh colors, the perfect reflection, the cattle in silhouettes. Very very clean and great work, Jonathan.

Hi Jonathan,
I liked your description, it intensified my impression of this picture. The reflections and the light are really beautiful here, but I think the cattle are what makes this picture stand out from other pictures of this type. Well seen and captured.

Hi Jonathan,
Again you have made fantastic use of the hazy and cloudy skies. The reflection is superb. Another reason I came here is that I found this pic on the internet and I assume it has been stolen. I have had this happen to me also and I don't like it. The webpage is an Uzbek tourism company so I guess there's not much you can do about it mate.

Hello Jonathan,
Wonderful shot of a magical land! The proportions, silhouettes of the cattle, colours, evocative emotional response. This shot has it all.Good work!
This photo in one shot tellingly describes the lighting, vastness and essence of a landscape that is seemingly empty but is not--rather, it pulls at the heartstrings of the soul.
What a wonderful, complementary choice of photo for the cover jacket of the travelogue Shadow of the Silk Road by Colin Thubron. The photo heightens the experience of the prose of the journey in the book. One can imagine being transcended to Lake Song Kul.
It was actually this photo which led me to TE. I am now having great fun learning about photography. Thanks, Jonathan.
