Photographer's Note
The scanning doesn't do justice to this photo. Neither do the printed 30x40 version I have on the wall at home. I guess that the latitude of colours and tones is just too much.
The place is absolutely magical, as you can see in TE Jarkhot gallery. Shame on me, there you can also see that mine is the worst picture there and that the place is really something.
Jarkhot is on the famous Annapurna circuit trek, on the way from Jomsom to Muktinath, the later being an important hindu and buddhist pilgrimage site and the first village West of the famous Thorong La pass.
It's a charming little village at perhaps more than 3000 meters high, with a nice gompa (Tibetan Buddhist monastery) perched on edge of a cliff - you can see its profile approximately on the middle of the image, in the angle of the dark area.
UPDATE: All these 12 years I thought that one of the peaks on the back was Dhaulagiri (8000+ meters high), but today someone kindly informed me that it is visible from the place where I shot it but it doesn't appear on the photo, as it is more to the left.
You can read about what I did the day I shot this photo in http://www.geocities.com/nepal_indiafaq/nepal-travelog/d10.htm
I reposted the photo after I flipped it horizontally.

Update 31-Mar-2008:
Link to all my posts of this area: *.
Location (latitude, longitude): 28.8179,83.85
Note on the location in TE: according to Wikipedia, all this region, from Jomsom to Lo Manthang and Muktinath is part of Dhawalagiri district [te]. I put my posts in the Gandaki district following the others, as almost no one posts their photos of the region in the supposedly right place.

I like the play of light you have captured here Jose, the sense of atmosphere that Jharkot exudes has come across well. Shame about the poor quality of the scan though.

Hi Jose!
Although the quality is not good, but you show us with your photo a spectacular landscape with beauty lights and colors. I imagine the sensations that can be felt in a place like that. TFS

ALthough, as you said scaning does'nt do justice to this photo, it is a very good photo. It had certain very charming sense of freshness. I like ut.
By the way, scaning increase noise. This can be reduced with software called NeatImage (you can downloadit from internet). I try to use it on your photo and I think result is quite satisfactory. I posted it as WS to show you.
Anyway beside that technicallity this is a very good landscape.

Scanners are notorious for ruining very nice pictures. This picture is nice. I like the different colors and the perspective of the mountains with the diffused light coming from above. This picture remind me of one of my own pictures because of the colors. I think the quality is still good enough to see some details. Nice work Jose.

José,
Interessante essa foto. Os diversos níveis de profundidade e de formas dão uma compsição muito boa. As pequenas constrtuções em primeiro plano são igualmente interessantes.

Olá José,
This is one of the most impressive shots I've seen in your growing gallery. The stark contrast of light and shadows, and the sharp images in the front fading away into the degraded light of distance is a lesson for artists. I looked at the shots by others of Jarkhot; you are being modest. I like yours very much. Finally, thanks for a useful note. If you had a good digital camera 13 years ago, this might be somewhat sharper, but it is excellent for scanned slide from Ektachrome film.
Enjoy your Sunday,
Bulent

Olá José,
Cheguei aqui após "One year in TE" ;-)
É pena esta ser digitalizada, pois as sombras, luz e cores, além do ambiente espectacular, prometem fotos magníficas neste local.
Um abraço, F

Olá José,
one of both missed for sure. :-(
Not sure which one. My problem with the light could not be changed with this real view.

Hello Jose,
The nature is stunning and need no extra drama to catch attention!
The fading mountains in a distance adds a touch of mystery, enhanced by the presence of buildings...
Well done on handling the analogue image, converting to the digital medium!
Greetings,
Pablo -
