Photographer's Note
Unfortunately, there is a lot of poverty in Manila. Many of the kids you see playing on the street have very little. Sadly, that is the case here, although I believe he had a home to go home to, many don't even have that. This was taken in a little park/traffic circle that was quite a hub of activity, probably about 100 meters away from my Pensionne in Manila.

This is a good shot. Personally, I would go for a tighter crop and a less shallow DOF BUT your preference is also very good. The DOF-ed background adds a smile to the already smiling child. Very good expression from your subject. Like this shot, maestro.

what a nice portrait. the kid is great, it is a pity his life is hard.
very interesting effect of shallow DOF, basically there is this kid and some blur at the background, the whole attention goes to the kid. the light is just great. and the central composition is very brave.
so, no complaints again... very nice!

Interesting view Darren. I won't be too hard on you, but thank you for your critiques.. I like this picture as many you posted.. It's very good. May be I would have cropped it on both sides .
Other wise nothing to say... It's sharp, very good.

What a beautiful portrait of such a lovely child. I love your choice of DoF here, keeps the eye completely on your subject. The only thing I might have done is a tighter crop, but, I am famous for cropping tightly!! Wonderful work!!

Great portrait shot, Darren. Wonderful clarity and nice DOF - freezing the boy amongst all the activity. You captured an interesting expression on the boy's face. I can't decide if it is friendly or not. Well seen.

Great shot Darren. Very sharp on the boy and I think your framing is well chosen: it gives the kid a place in our world (with cars etcetera). I like the dirt on his face, it gives the picture a very natural look.

This series of Filipino children is just beautiful! I haven't commented on your work lately because I can't just put my words into the computer. This one grabbed me ... so real, so full of stories, so sympathetic, and so hopeful.

Impressive look on us... What do we do about this?
An excellent picture, very well fitting the TE theme, it could have been tigher framed though.

Hi Darren,
I like this photo for the blurred background that framed in a beautiful way this boy's genuine expression.
No more to say than just to try to learn...
A smile
