Dedicated to the Nurses, a photo from Taipei, North

Photographer's Note

I don't often, if ever, dedicate photos to anyone. However with this one, I wish to dedicate this shot to nurses all over the world.

I know this is not a great analogy, but it is the best I can come up with. If doctors are the rock stars of the medical world, nurses are the roadies; without them, the show couldn't go on. If you think about what roadies do, you might see some parallels. They show up hours before the big show, doing all the hard work of set up. They step aside for the performers to come on stage and get all the glory, then after the stars have long left the stage, the roadies are once again hard at work breaking down and packing up. Mick and Keith couldn't do the simplest of gigs without their unknown roadies.

Now, nurses are like this in many ways. When you go in, they are the first ones you meet. They help settle frazzled nerves, offer comfort, and prepare the patient for the rock star doctor who comes in late, does his/her bit for a very short time and then leaves once again for the nurses do to the clean up and further nurturing. I have absolutely nothing whatsoever against doctors, those I know are great, but after today I will eternally be grateful for what nurses do in times of stress. We came across lots today, and to a woman, they were absolutely great. The one you see on the left was the head nurse, while the two standing so politely on the right were nursing students. Embarassingly, I didn't even get their names. None could have been nicer though and they made what would have been a terrifying and stressful day into nothing more than a day of pure joy. I might not know their names, but I will never forget them.

So, to nurses everywhere, I raise my glass and give my most profound thanks.

I have lots to be thankful for today.

yes, i raise my glass to them too, i think nurses are the real stars at the end of the day and they deserve the best.

Darren... CONGRATULATIONS!

I know what you mean, my mum is a care worker, looking after elderly and disabled individuals. She doesn't talk about her gruelling tasks, but I know that I am not strong enough to carry out her work. It takes a certain kind of person, I feel. Indeed, they deserve more recognition for the effort they put into healthcare services.

What a day this must be for you three.. no doubt you are tired, elated.. so many emotions you must be feeling today. I can't imagine what that feeling might be like.. I'll say it again, congratulations.. I have no doubt that you will be a great father. Thanks for letting us know..

Your note is brilliant dear Darren. Comparing the nurses to roadies in a rock show is a blissful truth. Some months ago I cut an eyebrow playing football and had to be suturated. And each day I returned there to change the band - a very simple thing of course - I watched nurses and their work, how they helped people in the most varied ways always with a caring word and smile. It made me look at them as real heroes. There are so much humanity flying though these medical facilities... Thanks for the photo and the dedication then.

And congratulations. May God help you in always making the right decisions. All the best for the three of you.

This will change your life a LOT, you don't even imagine how... and like Animesh mentions, the sleep price on your personnal commodities stock exchange will raise higher than anything else. The good thing is that you might have the time to post a line or two when you'll be awake between 2 and 3 AM... ;D ...

I have been a bit away from TE and am glad to have found this shot. I also raise my glass to wonderful nurses who deserve every praise there is. The caregivers, the gentle lovers of what is.
