Looking back at Traversed Hairpin Turns, a photo from Sughd, West

Photographer's Note

This view is seen from the uppermost hairpin turn of the dirty motor road towards the Obburdon Pass (3961 m above sea level) through the Turkestan Range.

Due to the hairpin turns, the road is not very steep, but it is very long. Cyclists usually have climbing ability sitting on bike, but sometimes they should comb grade on foot.

This must have been a hell of a climb for cyclists.
The good thing is that afterwards they're able to descend the mountain at the other side.

A great view of rugged mountainous scenery from this stopping point, certainly a few hairpin to negotiate on that climb. I just love the way the road snakes down the side of the mountain leading the eye to vast expanse of scenery so well. Exposure for the available light is spot on and nicely composed. The scenery is breathtaking, with these high mountains with clouds iso- summits seem more remote and lifeless, the path seems tremendous to increase it by bike, well prepared some real athletes, that you venture at this stage ... .

Gosh, this looks grim!
Your photograph has very clearly shown the steepness of the slopes, the arid nature of the terrain, the curving path, slowly winding its way up the slopes and the grey, overcast weather.
You have chosen a fine aspect for your composition, using the f/g slope to create a good sense of depth to the distant, cloud-topped mountain.
