The most remote village in Ayni District, a photo from Sughd, West

Photographer's Note

Darkh is famous as a village of dancers, singers and jugglers touring throughout Tajikistan in winters and turning into ordinary peasants in summers. Such words were written by Sergey Mstislavskiy in his novel 揜oof of the World� in 1905. More than a century later, we saw Darkh as a calm, picturesque and interesting village on the Zarafshan Mountain Range, with 2260 inhabitants. The distance to Ayni, the center of this administrative district, is 60 km from there.

These mountains look so dry, like the desert mountains of my favorite place, Baja California in Mexico. But -- different from Baja! - there is a beautiful river! Thanks for sharing this image!

Zdravo Sergiy. Your visit to the roof of the world is impressively depicted in your recent photos. How I wish i was able to do what you are doing, seeing these remote and stunning places- those mountains, valleys and clean streams and rivers remind me of Pushkin's poems about his wandering in the Kavkaz regions. You've composed this picture very well and don't show us only the village but also a part of its surroundings with the arid mountains behind it and the river on the foreground.

It seems to be very interesting village . Water in the stream in the FG , greenery in the village ... but the moutains in the Bg are so arid , what a contrast !
I like a lot the presence of teh people that add life to the scene .

new country in your gallery and I think a rare guest here on TE(I can磘 remember seeing pictures from Tajikistan here).
You provide us here with really magnificnet view of the area-from the impressive mountains in the distance to the village and the daily-life aspect.Well composed and framed scene.And I can only hope to see many pictures more from this beautuiful,but unknown country.

A very interesting street scene from a place I don磘 think I will ever visit. But thanks to TE, I can still enjoy these "exotic" places. There are many fine details here, from the very dry mountains at the top, down to the streaming water at the bottom. A very pleasant picture!

I know I would have no knowledge of this place without your photographs! It is incredibly interesting.
You have, from your viewpoint, shown us the people, their buildings and the very arid, austere surroundings in which they live. The water, rushing rapidly through the f/g, is a strong contrast to what is beyond.

a superb composition, a very rewarding vertical frame full of interest. You have the skill to transport the viewer into deep, vivid and interiguing sceneries and this picture is great proof. We get a very good idea about the natural scenery, the architecture and the daily life in this remote village, even though we didn't know it existed before viewing your effective presentation. Depth and textures have been rendered marvellously, the light has been managed very aptly and no details and colours are concealed by the distance or the shadows. Congratulations and thank you!
