Photographer's Note
‘Ayutthaya - Wat Chaiwatthanaram’
Wat Chaiwatthanaram is a Buddhist temple in the historical park of Ayutthaya, a city of about 70.000 inhabitants located 100 kilometers north of Bangkok.
The wat is considered one of the most beautiful temples of Ayutthaya and is visited by many tourists, Thai as well as foreigners.
The temple can be reached along the road and along the river.
Its construction started in 1630 and it was built in the Khmer style which was popular at the time.
Wat Chaiwatthanaram means 'the temple of the long reign and the glorious era'.
I was surprised that many Thai visitors had put on beautiful traditional clothing.
Upon inquiry it turned out that there was a shop nearby that rented out these traditional clothes for the time of the temple visit. A lot of Thai wore the beautiful clothes during their visit and liked to take pictures of each other. They also liked the fact that foreigners photographed them like this. Lucky me :)
The best time to visit the Wat Chaiwatthanaram is just before sunset. I was there two days in a row at that time.
Unfortunately I don't have any photos of the temple during the day. After all, Ayutthaya has many more interesting temples. Tourists who enjoy visiting temples should definitely include Ayuttaya in their itinerary.

Hello Paul,
Interesting photos in the WS but certainly the best view and most pleasant composition is shown us in the main photo. The warm evening light has given the Khmer style pagodas a wonderful glow and the nicely dressed people on the lawn gave you a good foreground. It could have been an option to crop the right part with the scaffolding without totally spoiling the composition, but I still prefer this wider view.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hallo Paul,

Hello Paul, I found your notes very interesting, especially about being able to hire clothes to wear for the visit to the Temple.
I find the Wat very beautiful. I am in awe of the people who built the complex.
The people nicely animate your scene. I like the soft light that shows off the colours and features of the building.
Thanks for sharing,
kind regards, Jean.

Hallo Paul,

Hallo Paul, i never visited Ayutthaya. These ancient temples in stone are fantastic to discover. Some Thai tourists are wearing traditional clothes. The afternoon sunlight is bathing the towers. Fine colors, good sharpness, interesting photo note, regards.

Dag Paul,
is goed geplaatst.
Zeer mooi foto werk
Mooi pinkster weekend gewenst,
John

Hello Paul,
I like the way the fading light brings out the rich color of the temple. The colors are so earthy and beautiful. I also like the two pairs of people in the foreground, in their traditional clothes. I hope all is well. Take good care!

Hello Paul.
Impressive this great temple, to which the light of the sunset gives a very beautiful reddish color, the people animate the image and give us an ideal of the great proportions of the monument.
Gorgeous POV, very pleasing to the eye.
Colorful, sharp and bright are captured effectively.
Very good composition, magnificent presentation.
Have a good weekend and keep safety.
Warm greetings.
Luis.

Bonjour Paul Le déclin du soleil pare ces joyaux historiques d'un revêtement très riche et cette vue d'ensemble qui est savamment parsemée de touristes fascinés par la majesté du lieu excelle par les tons discrets et charmants de l'ensemble.

Hi Paul
I was here way back 17 or so years ago. Time fly's. I spent a couple days in this city. To be honest, I don't recall the specific details of the city other than these temples. I do recall Thailand being VERY touristy back then, so i can only imagine what it's like now. A very pretty postcard type shot with warm warm tones with a contrasting pale blue sky, love it
cheers

Hi Paul,
that is quite interesting indeed! I would think that people were these clothes in this area and they are just rented.
Did you rent one as well? I bet if TrekEarth would allow selfies you would be stronger motivated to do it.
Having said that I forgot to check workshop photos yet :)
Beautiful place as if from a fairy tale.
The light makes such an enormous difference, I mean comparison to the blue hour show which I already have seen.
Excellent work,
M

paul
curious these fake kmer structures, while in europe they recreated gothic and classic styles it is natural in asia they recreated their local styles too. we can have a better idea hos the original temples were. nice view of a place I didn't know.
take care
