An Evening in Khast-Imam, a photo from Tashkent, East

Photographer's Note

The Khast-Imam complex in Tashkent is a recreated modern site built in the 1990s on an original site. It is a religious centre in Tashkent and a place for worship for Muslim pilgrims. It is situated in the old city area and surrounded by blocks of mud houses.

The ensemble comprises of the Barak-Khana Madrassah of the 16th century, Teleshayakh Mosque, part of which houses an important religious library, the 16th century Kaffal-Shashi mausoleum, which was built over the grave of Abubekr Mukhmmad Kaffal-Shashi, and the Imam al-Bukhari Institute.

The Complex sqaure becomes busy in the evening with the locals...children playing, women chatting, boys cycling & the grand-dads help flying kites :-)

Hello Angshuman,
The thumbnail looked like this could be an old factory with smoke coming out of its chimneys, but of course it was a lot more beautiful than that. The real beauty is not so much the building as such as the warm late afternoon light, the colorful kite perfectly captured in front of the cloud and the grandfather having fun. The atmosphere and colors are lovely.

Great balanced composition. So much history and beauty... You've captured the scene wonderfully using the late afternoon warm lighting to bring out the architecture of this fabulous complex. Your POV and composition with the kite flyer and the fine clouded sky really enhances the overall scene. A superb photo.

So lovely to see how the whole area is bathed in warm golden light and subtle colours on both the catchy edifice as well as the sky area, the kite flyer gives some good foreground with that magical sparkling red. I have to admit, this is a country I know very little about.
its always great to see more and more photos from this country. Maybe one day i'll come and visit this place.

having the family there adds SO much to the architecture, I'm learning that from TE :)

Hello Angshu,

I have seen on Facebook that you have had wonderful trip in Europe and where are the photos from there??? Someone is lazy (or very busy ). beautiful mosque built in the same style as old ones. marvelous domes with tiles. Marvelous colours. But you were so lucky to have here this man with a kite. This colourful kite against the fabulous sky steals the show.

Hello Angshu,
Seeing the long shadows I guess you took this picture in the late afternoon or in the evening.
The low position of the sun created splendid warm tones on the walls of this religious centre.
Very beautiful together with the green domes and the colourful kite in the sky.
The presence of the people gives us a good idea of the size of the complex.

the architecture has some superb traits and you are giving us the opportunity to study and enjoy them even from a long distance. The colour given to the buildings by the warm light is very interesting and so is the repetition. I like that you prefered to sacrifice symmetry and capture the joyful scene with the grandad flying the kite. The cloud is very attractive, it looks as if it's after the kite. The warm yellow red color of the mosque in the late afternoon sunshine contrast well against the blue sky to give a pleasing warm vs cold color contrast. Good sharpness and well framed and composed with the colouful kite adding a fine focal point. Tfs.

Hi Angshu,
a very impressive complex indeed and you have captured it at amazing light conditions: the warm light makes it almost gold in color. You had also a great luck with the cloud hanging above the structure. It makes the sky so much more attractive. Of course the person with the kite adds a further interest and some action to that peaceful scenery.

I have never been in this former Soviet republic but I want to visit this country someday too.
Bukhara, Samarkand, Khorezm etc. I do remember these cities from the school years. Excellent photo, thanks for this presentation of Tashkent.
