~ natural sculpture ~, a photo from Lao Cai, North East

Photographer's Note

This was where I ended up during my late afternoon motorbike bumpy ride in a beautiful Lau Cai countryside, cool at 1500m, 10km southwest of Sa Pa. A remote and undeveloped region at the foot of Hoang Lien Mountain range or better known as Tonkin Alps. It reveals endless of lush terraced rice fields, also home to the Black Hmong and Red Dzao ethnic minorities.

Homing on a typical cultivation pattern and common features in this region, I was so intrigued by those contour, shapes and patterns amazingly created by the hardworking farmers.

Setting: 70 mm, 1/100 sec, F16, ISO Raw 200, 1419 hrs

Hello Abmdsudi,

There is no doubt that these rice fields create the most artistic, 3D patterns on the hilsides.
In this case, beside the striking contours, you have also captured changes in hues. It looks amazing!
The house in the bottom corner helps us to understand the scale as well as as the proximity of the workers.

Hi abmdsudi
When I went to Vietnam 11 years ago, I had two options for travel destinations in Hanoi. I traveled to Harung Bay. I didn't go on a Sapa trip located in the northwest of Hanoi because I didn't have time, but it's a shame. Someday, when I have time, I want to travel to a terraced rice field. The minorities who created this terraced rice field are amazing.

The country side around Sa Pa is fascinating and beautiful isn't it. A good photo of a mix of dry and wet paddy fields. (It was all dry when I was there). Good colour and detail.

I love these stepped terraces for growing rice, they form a dreamlike landscape with the diverse shades of green, the brightness of the water and the color of the earth.
A fantastic photo, with beautiful natural colors, very good lighting and excellent sharpness.

Hello Abmdsudi, a fascinating landscape that never fails to amaze me.
I wonder how long the landscape has looked like this?
Taken from an excellent high point of view, we can fully appreciate all the terraces, wet or dry.
