Photographer's Note

A change of scene for me for a while with a revisit from 2011 to one of my favourite places in Vietnam, Hoi Ann. Hoi An was a popular tourist destination then and I believe that it is even more so now but in 2011, at least, it had kept its character and there were plenty of interesting places away from the town centre.
We were there late in the wet season so this photo of Phac Hat Pagoda was taken in misty rain.
We walked past this pagoda every day and just along the road from it was the scene in the workshop photo. That was taken on the same wet day.

Hello Ian,
I also liked Hoi An very much, even if it was very touristy. I suppose I visited also this pagoda. Wonderful architecture, lovely flowers in the big pots. Beautiful presentation.
Best regards MAlgo

Bonjour, cher Ian,
L'on dirait la saison des pluies !
Ici, l'image principale valorise ce patrimoine artistique de la plus belle eau.
La végétation boit avec avidité l'eau tombant du ciel.
Très bien.
Amitiés.

Hello Ian,
I was in Hoi An the first time in 1993, when there was only one hotel, three or four restaurants or cafés and maybe a dozen tourists. It's a very pretty town but it has changed almost beyond belief. This pagoda looks the same regardless of the number of tourists. The buildings in the WS are a lot uglier, but the people seeking protection from the rain make it a more interesting photo than this one. It tells us more about life in a tropical city on a rainy day.
Best regards,
Gert

Hi Ian
Lots of photographers consider rain a "bad" thing for photography, not just because it's uncomfortable to be outside with water dripping on you from the sky, but because of the "poor" light. In fact, rain brings different opportunities, such as wet surfaces turning into mirrors, like in your workshop image. And the greens and yellows in the main shot really stand out in this kind of light. So well done on not writing the day off because of the weather!
Best wishes
Kasia

Hello Ian
I have always been amazed at how we try to up one on nature with our placement of plants and shrubs. This image is really appealing for this reason. The colors and POV work together nicely.

Hello Ian,
You were right to remind us of the larger version, for the improvement is remarkable.
It's interesting to see just how much atmosphere can be captured when the there is no bright, blue sky to enliven things. I like this very much, the greenery still glows and there is a slight reflection in the rain!
Your viewpoint is well chosen.
There is something charming about the w/s. I have always found it interesting to watch the rain descend, from the safety of a dry doorway! Other obviously enjoy it, too!
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Ciao Ian
A soft, diffused light and some reflections to compensate for the lack of sunlight. Good colour & perspective. Tfs!

Hi Ian,
this year so many of us are rather re-visiting old photos not being able to travel as much as intended, although you live in such a huge country that even with closed borders you have plenty of amazing places to visit, which you have demonstrated also recently.
This is a very different place to visit than your recent photos. Elaborate oriental architecture.
The mist clearly didn't help but you managed it well and it makes a great reportage,

Hi Ian,
The length of the garden is creating depth. The point of view is showing the details of the Pac Hat pagoda. The rainy sky does not hurt the colours output. Have a nice day.

Ian, the abundance of green plants in pots prettifies this courtyard. The pagodas have elegant balconies, roofs and pillars. The facades are decorated with religious paintings. Fine colors, good sharpness, regards.

Hello Ian.
A fantastic place, with a lot of charm with those beautiful pagodas, hurts from the rain that blurs the profiles a bit.
Excellent POV, with good lightingand color.
Good work. I like it
Have a happy day.
Very best regards.
Luis.
