Photographer's Note
Please open both photos in a new tab.
During flood time in Hoi An some of the side streets become canals reaching into the heart of the business area allowing small craft to transport people to and from nearby areas. All that I saw were operated by women.
From what I could tell both of the people in these boats were customers.
To see the boat operators and tourist customers go to the workshop. River trips for tourists in flood time continued unabated.

Bonjour, cher Ian,
Cela doit faire drôle de jouer les touristes en ces périodes de crues. Les habitants profitent malgré tout de ce moment pour gagner un peu d'argent (du moins, je le suppose);
Merci pour ce partage particulier.
Amitiés.

Hi Ian
What a great capture but I just can't imagine Hoi An street being flooded. I like the way you have managed to focus the woman as main subject yet keep detail in the highlights beyond.
I've never seen it flooded like this so I'll have to content myself with looking at all your wonderful images!! Excellent
Best regards

Hello Ian,
The woman doesn't look happy, and I'm not surprised. I find the WS more interesting, even though it mainly shows tourists.
Regards,
Gert

Ian, the pirogues stay the best means of transport when the streets are flooded. Nice view of this woman with the traditional conical hat. Fine colors, good sharpness, regards.

Hi Ian,the tourist has a free funny experience as i can see in the WS,but these aren't great days for local people. But they have the right solution, but the face expression of woman talks himself. Another very interesting report from the moonsoon days there. Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Hi Ian,
charming series of photos from the flooded world. The color of the water is worrying a bit. So brown, who know what it carries?
Well captured people, customers and tourists.
That must have been an interesting experience.
Very good reportage,
M

Hello Ian,
Two fine photographs, revealing the difficult working conditions during the rainy period.
There is much activity in the w/s, which could have been a stand-alone photograph, but, like you, I prefer this one.
This one has a human story to tell.
At first, we can suspect that there is antagonism between the two, sitting with backs to each other. Though there is no dialogue, human emotion always ranks high on a scale of interest!
It is innocent, according to your notes, but ... does the photograph give us that impression!
Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Hi Ian,
Quite surprising view. Water level is right on the step of that building. And somehow we get the feeling that this is not a rare event, even the lady does not seem to be happy about the situation. Funny how muddy colour of water matches with the wall paint on the left.

Hi Ian,
You have captured well the wondering expression of the woman. The point of view is showing the details of the boat. The light is giving nice tints to the colors. Have a nice day.

Hello Ian,
In the picture in the WS there's almost no difference to be seen between the street and the river.
For tourists, the flood may have something else to draw their attention to. However, it's a much more difficult time of the year for residents.
Today I saw on TV that there are again floods in Vietnam. However, it was not specified where.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Ian,
Good angle to take this view about flood, good portrait of this woman with traditional hat, good effect with the same tone for water and wall of the building in the BG, tfs.

Hello Ian, both shots are very interesting.
I like this one, as you have captured the woman with a thoughtful expression on her face, totally unaware of you.
The flood water doesn't seem very deep, but obviously boats are the best way to get around. I notice that one of the boats in the w/s picture has eyes, like other boats that we have seen in other parts of the world.
Excellent observations of everyday life.
Kind regards, Jean.
