Photographer's Note
Please open both photos in a new tab.
Over our first couple of days in Hoi An the rain got heavier as you can see in this photo taken in the courtyard of a classic Hoi An building.
Then the river started rising and lapping into the streets of the town centre - see the workshop for another wet scene. As you can see the locals are used to it.

Bonjour, cher Ian,
Quand il pleut sur la ville et son environnement, c'est torrentiel !
C'est vraiment impressionnant. Bravo pour avoir su rendre compte d'un moment sous une pluie diluvienne.

Hello Ian,
I found it very strange that in Myanmar we hat sunny and hot weather and after a few days, in Vietnam, so not far away, it was quite different - it was raining and raining almost all the time. I haven't foressen that. Lovely view of this nice balcony in the heavy rain. Lovely composition.
Best regards Malgo

Hello Ian,
I like both photos, but for different reasons. Spontaneously I would probably have chosen the WS for main upload because of the colours and light and for showing how life goes on even when there's some water in the street. On second thought this is probably the best choice because we can see so clearly the intensity of the downpour, and the details of the old building are so nice. I had friends who lived very close to the river, only one block away, and I have often wondered what happened to their home in the really bad floods that have hit the town a fes times.
Regards,
Gert

Hello Ian,
Beautiful illustration accompanying the English phrase "It's raining Cats and Dogs".
In Dutch we know the expression, It's raining 損ijpestelen".
Hard to translate, but it's like the stems of a pipe.
And I have to say that this has often been the case here in the last week.
Nice but wet photo 😉
Have a nice day, groet Rob

Oh, yes, that is rain. But the beauty of it, is that it is always VERY clear in Vietnam: either it rains (then it pours), or it doesn't (then the sun shines). Unlike the constant drizzle we have over here these days...grr...
Tecnnically difficult to pull off, maybe not the world's best shot in that respect, but it is a lovely shot that does bring back some rainy memories here. Thanks for posting it, Ian. Stay dry.

Hello Ian,
Over the last few years, we have found our weather patterns changing and have begun to experience deluges on a par with this! Ours don't last for a season though!
You have really given us a very good impression of the force of the rain, in this photograph, whilst your w/s reveals just how well the local deal with the rainfall.
Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Hi Ian,
wow, this is really a great capture of the rain. Both photos. You have well used the old structures as an interesting background but the rain steals the show.
Interesting how long was the exposure time to achieve such effect?
Excellent work,
M

HI Ian,
You have captured well the rain falling. The point of view is showing the details of the building. The rain has a special effect on the colours. Have a nice day.

Hello Ian,
It seem a big shower, this is rain.
You show us a lovely frontage with the rain drops.
Excellent depth and perspective too.
Sharpness and clarity are perfect.
An excellent composition and good presentation
Very well done, TFS.

Hello Ian,
Not exactly the kind of weather I like to see when travelling :)
I hope you had a roof over your head when you took the main photo.
This picture shows clearly how heavy it's raining.
Yet my preference goes to the one on the WS because of its great variety of colours, the reflection in the puddle and the overall composition.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Ian,
Looks just a wee bit moist! The green moss at the side is further evidence of frequent rainshowers. Nice motion blur of the falling water. Tfs!

Hi Ian,
I know how rain usually just disappears on still pictures. But not on this one! That is really intense!
Still my choice is the workshop. So much colourful details by the street. And the wake behind the scooter rushing through the flooding street looks great.
