Today some closer detail at My Son, the ruined ancient Hindu temple complex inland from Hoi An.
The main photo shows an example of the carvings on the outside of My Son temples. Unfortunately not many are in good condition with this one being one of the best but it is without its face.
The first workshop shows a couple of free standing sculptures, one headless.
The second workshop shows much better what there used to be at My Son. It shows sculptures rescued from My Son from before the bombing in the Vietnam war. These sculptures are in the museum at Da Nang, north of Hoi An.

Ciao Ian
I remember doing a 1/2 day tour to this place. From memory it was an old Champa ruin. Good sharpness with a nice diffused light. Tfs!

Hello Ian!
The next good one from your Vietnam trip.
Even faceless it is a very nice sculpture. I like that nobody removed the bright green plants, they are a very nice decoration.
Regards,Ronny

Hello Ian,
The lost heads or faces are probably found in museums or rich person's private collections around the world. European "discoverers" had a tendency of taking what they wanted, and they have been followed in more recent times by organized gangs of plunderers. But there is enough left here to make us realize what a beautiful place this had been. I remember the museum in Da Nang as an interesting place.
Regards,
Gert

Hello Ian,
The details in your main photograph give textures which are almost palpable! They produce a sense of sadness, as these important, religious buildings and icons, slowly disappear into the jungle canopy.
The locals obviously suspected what was going to happen by removing the detailed sculptures. They really are delightful images, well sculptured and revealing a joyful time of music and dancing.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Ian,
The tight frame is putting this section of the temple in evidence. The point of view is shpowing the details of the statue. The light is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.

Hello Ian, a lovely close up of this carving at My Son.
I love the textures of the stone, the different shapes and the contrasting green of the encroaching vegetation.
The workshop shots are an excellent complement.
Thanks for sharing, kind regards, Jean.

Hello Ian, I remember well all these sculptures in My Son. How sad that all this ancient town has survived centuries and was destroyed in just one bombing. Fascinating place that nature took over. wonderful picture. I like the colours of the stone contrasting with the green plants.
Best regards Malgo

Ian, like in Thailand and Cambodia, Hindu religion was dominant in these areas before to be replaced by Buddhism. That relic isn't in good state but it shows a passage of Vietnam history. Fine colors, good sharpness, regards.

Hello Ian,
The three photos have convinced me that My Son is a very interesting place to visit.
Just as beautiful sculptures and overgrown parts as we see in Cambodia at the Khmer temples.
Splendid stone colour on your main picture contrasting with the green vegetation in so many places.
Best regards, Paul
