Sky Colours, a photo from Saint George, North

Photographer's Note

The rainbow seems to emerge from the cloud and reach into space. The sky is so large and dramatic that it is dominating the land below, making the buildings on the hillside look so small and insignificant.

This picture was taken from the same place but looking in the opposite direction from Night Colours which I posted yesterday.

A few technical notes:
* The sky was treated with more contrast and saturation than the rest of the picture to ensure that the dramatic presence in reality is transfered to the photograph.
* NeatImage was used to eliminate the small amount of noise in the sky.
* I made a minor hue adjustment to make the yellow canopy and the blue sky contrast each other a little better.
* Some distracting detail was cropped from the bottom of the image so that the focus is just on the patches of colour.
*Usual sharpening filter was applied to bring out the details in the trees.

Very nice photo Jonathan and unusual to see a rainbow without a rain. The colours are superb, particularly the blue sky. Well captured!

Now you know I like cloud pictures! A good capture here - you have concentrated on the rainbow (difficult things to photograph) and have also captured in the background some "trailing virga" which can be seen on the right side of the cloud just beneath the rainbow. This is rain in the form of a shower falling from the cloud but not reaching the ground.

Jonathan, cet arc-en-ciel sur fond de ciel bleu c'est rare. Les nuages sont magnifiques et bien rendus. Je suis 閠onn� du peu de points obtenus pour ce clich�.
