Hohenwerfen at twilight, a photo from Salzburg, West

Photographer's Note

The fortress of Hohenwerfen, seen from the balcony of our hotel in Werfen. Hohenwerfen sits atop a rocky hill next to the town of Werfen, and is illuminated at night in a tasteful manner. The great castle is dwarfed by the huge cliffs of the Tennengebirge Range rising up on the right.

Our hotel was advertised as having Wifi internet, but we found out that we couldn't get a connection in our room - we had to go onto the balcony to get the signal. But the balcony doesn't have a roof, so that idea was OK until it started raining. At least on this night it wasn't raining, so we had both internet and a good view of the castle.

Thanks to the difficult internet connection, you have often been able to admire the beautiful castle from the balcony.
It's indeed wonderfully illuminated including the diagonal part of the wall on the right.
Beautiful with the silhouettes of the forested slopes.

Hi Vincent,
Fantastic capture of this impressive fortress. Quite a unique presentation at the blue or rather purple hour. I noticed that on cloudy evenings the cameras usually record the sky more purple than blue. The effect is warm and pleasant. I often struggle to decide whether to keep it as it was recorded by the camera or if I have RAW file available, you can change the sky modifying the white balance to a blue color. Quite often I leave it as it is. My recent photo had the colors completely out but I didn't have the RAW file of it.

Hello Vincent, the twilight sky has an almost purple tinge to it on my screen which is very attractive. The dark foreground adds a sense of mystery with just the fortress illuminated.

We get a nice contrast picture with the lighting on the castle
Also the blue sky gives additional colour to your picture
The dark foreground cares for a depth contrast picture.

Hello Vincent,

What an amazing view from your hotel room!
The focal castle, so warmly illuminated, seems to flow down the hilside in a fluid manner!
The darkest tones at the front, give way to the blue, evening sky, which makes for an excellent, thirds composition.
