This hospital was very important for Bruges to 1970, than became a new hospital built at the exterior of Bruges.

This old hospital is now an exposition space.
Certainly a visit worthy.

South facade of the medieval St. John's Hospital .
The hospital was implanted on Mary Street , the former access road from Ghent and Kortrijk . Of the first original hall , only the foundations and some wall fragments remaining . To meet the increasing demand for care for sick pilgrims and travelers began early 13th century with the construction of three new wards . A phase that lasted until about 1310. Later entered the monastery ( 14th century ) and the convent ( 1544 ) .
From the disappearance of the fraternity at the end of the 16th century, the Augustinian sisters were alone in the management and health care . From the 20th century, this was done by ordinary citizens .
From 1796 the hospital came under the administration of Civil Hospices and in 1925 turned into 1977, that the Commission for Public Assistance ( COO ) , to the current PWC.

Hallo John,
Deze tuin ken ik nog niet. Het ziet er wel heel mooi uit in de lente met de vele bloesems.
Dit lijkt me een ideale plaats in Brugge om een foto te nemen van de Sint-Salvatorskathedraal. De toren prijkt prachtig boven de rustige tuin uit.
Mooi licht en kleuren. Uitstekende scherpte.

Hello John,
An interesting story to accompany this fine composition; it is nice to here that the old hospital has been put to good use, rather than being torn down. I like the perspective down the floral pathway and the focal point offered by the church tower. The man walking and admiring the shrubbery brings the scene to life and contributes to the sense of depth. The image is pleasantly lit and has very good colours and sharpness.

The man walking towards us is a very important part of the composition, in my opinion. The view as such is beautiful with the very nice fences creating diagonals along the garden and the brick building. The church provides a very nice background. The colours and sharpness are excellent, as always.

Excellent view from the garden. Like the perspective you have created with the row of trees. Very strange trees, never seen such trees with branches perpendicular to the stem. Good inclusion of the person who provides life to the scene. But the star in your photo according to me is the spotless blue sky. It has a silky feel to it. Excellent photo with vibrant colours and perfect sharpness. Thanks for sharing.

The nice tower of the church becomes a focal point for the eye as the oblique straight lines seem to lead to it. The man walking adds perspective and life on this beautiful day of spring. The inage quality is, as usual, very good.

Een mooie opname van deze fraaie tuin die tijdens de zomer een pracht moet zijn. Het pad met de gesnoeide bomen trekt je het beeld in met een goed perspectief tot gevolg. Door je goed gekozen standpunt krijgen we een prachtig uitzicht op de Sint-Salvatorskathedraal die zo mooi afsteekt tegen de blauwe lucht. De banken zijn uitnodigend om van de rustige omgeving te genieten. De ontluikende natuur en de bomen die in bloei komen zorgen voor een zeer aangenaam beeld. Hopelijk wordt het snel zo抧 weer !

Very nice and original composition, this garden in which highlight these trees, whose branches are joining with the next, creating as a plant fence, delightful view of the tower behind both green, the road gives a good perspective.

Hi John,

These grounds are head and shoulders above any I've ever seen at a hospital before. If you hadn't mentioned it, I would have assumed there was something more of a castle nearby to initiate this well manicured landscape. Another strong perspective from your keen compositional skills, leading us down the path and into the distance with the tower as a solid focal point. It also makes for a good contrasting vertical element to break up some of the negative space. Bright, colorful, and detailed as always. Enjoy the week ahead. Take good care.

What caught first my attention were those strange exotic tree rows that give to themselves some airs of railroad power lines of yesteryears and then, their 'funneled' perspective leading attention to the bells tower for an attractive poster.

Hello John,

It didn't surprise me when I read that this was in Bruges; to me, all parts of this city have great beauty.
Your viewpoint uses the guide lines very effectively and, also, creates a fine sense of perspective.
Your figure appears to be enjoying his view of the garden, where the white blossom is cascading into the f/g.
I like how the church acts like a backstop.

early spring is a delightful time of the Year,where the nature awakes to life.
This is beautiful scene and I enjoy th eway you framed the scene and how you created this diagonal line leading our sight through the whole scene.In thsi aspect I find also this walking man crucial for the scene.

I would never have thought this was taken on the grounds of a hospital!
very interesting history, always changing hands over the hundreds of years - we don't have such history here in Canada :)
I wonder if there are any ghosts in or around this hospital because of its age.
tranquil type of setting for a hospital, i like that, perhaps it helps the healing process.
fine shot in the cloudless sky which can often be difficult.

Trees comes alive in the spring and with them heavy dose of pollen which is not good for my allergy, nice capture of this spring scene with flowers blooming and the grass green. Good lighting and nice details. Well done, tfs.

You're capturing well this old hospital by a good angle and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see low layer hospital enclosed by the tasteful wooden fence. It looks like a beautiful architecture with facade of calm tone. And, it's healthy that it is surrounded by rich nature. The whole is harmonized well by a good arrangement and beautiful color combination.

I have never been to this part of Brugge, but it looks great!
The perspective is well defined by the path which culminates in the tower in the BG dominating the scene. Great light to show fine details!

non avevo visto questa foto, mi piace molto, � molto diversa dalle classiche fotografie di Bruges.
Un pov originale che lascia spazio allo sfondo classico, ma che concentra la sua forza sulla diagonale di questa piccola strada pedonale dove sono presenti anche delle persone.
Ottima composizione, bei colori e bella luce.
