River:
The river formed a part of the front line during the First World War and was the scene of a war of war with trenches, with the Belgian and German armies digging along either side of the river. After the Battle of the Iron in 1914, the Belgian army could hold the rest of the war after invasion of a part of the Iron surface, on the proposal of the Veurse investigator and with the cooperation of Karel Cogge and Hendrik Geeraert. Further inland the allied lines were manned by British and French troops. Like other places in the region, horrific scenes have taken place where each other's statements were taken on time and captured with a high toll to human lives. Along the Iron remind various monuments and sites of war, including the Iron Tower and the Dodengang in Diksmuide.

Hello John,
All looks very peaceful now despite the painful history. I like the point of view; with the river curving away one wonders what lies beyond that bend. The two kayakers supply an interesting and colourful focal point whilst also animating the scene. Agreeable lights and colours and some nice reflections. Top class technical quality as ever.

Fantastic symmetrical reflections in the canal with the 2 kayakers animating the scene. Good sharpness and nice repetition of the moored boats along the canal. The sweeping curve of the watercourse adds lead in lines. Tfs!

Van de slag om de IJzer is op deze foto niets terug te zien, maar dit is een gebied met een rijke geschiedenis als is die geschiedenis niet altijd even vrolijk geweest. Maar op zo抧 mooie zonnige dag (net als vandaag) is het hier goed spelevaren.

This looks a lot nicer than it would have done 100 years ago. Let peace forever prevail in this pleasant area, so that people can enjoy paddling down the canal and others use their small yachts just for pleasure. It's a pleasant photo with excellent light and fine reflections. The canoes are small but bright spots of human activity.

I like the reflections on the water. The length of the river is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details of the trees and of the boats. The good luminosity is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.

Hello John,

The tragedy of the World Wars is still deeply imprinted on our minds, where the loss of life was horrendous!
This scene looks very tranquil now, with moored boats and canoeists helping to create the sense of peace and tranquility.
It's a well composed photograph, where the lazy curve of the river guides us leisurely inwards and gives lots of time to appreciate the trees and their reflections.

Hallo John,
Een mooi zomers plaatje gezien vanaf een goed uitzichtpunt net voor de bocht in de rivier. The curve vol jachten is vanaf hier goed te zien. De twee kano's zijn een mooi detail en de bomen spiegelen mooi in het kalme water.

I think the history should be not forgotten, but it should remain as the history, the present time is important, peaceful and friendly to people. A very good photo of a nice place, perfect quality

Very nice image of the canal, in a more rural environment, although the boats are anchored boats are magnificent, so it must be a country area with good level, beautiful reflections in it.
Sharpness, lighting, color, and the magnificent composition; are all factors perfectly accomplished, in this beautiful image.

A peaceful waterways certainly worth for few shots, packed with low warm lightand colours while the boats make great impact. The curvy lines extend the sense of depth and perspective - this make for an interesting rural scene, thoughtfully snapped. Congrats
