Tourists back a Bruges (photograph Saturn afternoon)

Saint Salvators Cathedral Bruges

Following on from my previous photo of the rainy day in Bruges, now this image.

From Romanesque to Neo-Gothic
The mighty and imposing building is part of the Bruges skyline and every corner or side has its history or secret. The exterior of the cathedral is reminiscent of a fortified castle due to the heavy brickwork; the interior takes you into the mystical atmosphere of the Middle Ages. Already in 1489 Pope Innocent VIII called this church 搑emarkable and beautiful (揹ignum et admodum sumptuosum opus).

The (lower) tower dates from the 11th century.
The construction of the current church can roughly be situated between 1275 and 1527.
The neo-Romanesque tower crown was built between 1844 and 1871.
Finally, in 1912 the construction of the neo-Gothic chapter building was started.

I hope you like it
