Windmill in Damme
The Schellemolen is a stone windmill in Damme, Belgium. The white-painted mountain mill dates from 1867 and replaced an earlier post mill. Since 1479, a mill has stood on this site along the Damse Vaart. The mill is equipped with two stone couples and an oil mill in the basement

Hallo John,
Die windmolen herinner ik me.
Ik meende eerst dat jij eergisteren een heel mooi weer en een prachtig licht had maar dan zag ik dat de foto 殚n jaar oud is.
Het was effectief een prachtig licht op de molen, de wieken, de blauwe lucht en de zonovergoten omgeving.
Het donkere riet op de voorgrond cre雃rt toch wat diepte in de foto.

There was not much snow, but the pale light shows winter at its best. It is a pleasure to watch this razor sharp photo where the trees complement the view of the windmill perfectly.

Wonderfully composed landscape! I do like the light catching the front of the windmill producing a strong composition but it's the colours that makes it 'zing'.

Hi John,
I am not surprised that it is a very photographed windmill. It is located in a lovely natural area. The open space allows wide undisturb view.
Nice asymmetric composition with the grass decorating the foreground and beautiful sky as a background.
The light was magnificent.

Het warme winterlicht is heel aangenaam en geeft de witte molen een aangename warme gloed, die mooi afsteekt tegen de blauwe lucht. De rietstengels vormen een mooie voorgrond.

Hello John,

Windmills are icons of the Low Countries and this is a fine example. I am not surprised that it is so popular with photographers.
I like how you have used the dark coloured grasses, almost like a fence, in the f/g, to create interest and to mix with the autumnal colours behind them.
You have made a good decision to give so much attention to the lovely, blue sky, which makes an excellent b/g against which to exhibit the impressive windmill.
It抯 a fine , sharp exposure.

Noatable strong wind shown upon the reed on the foreground, John, but the mill was not swirling, John.

Blurry reeds is quite original foreground, I like it. Lovely winter view with that windmill standing on sunshine. There seems to be a little bit of snow, I wish there was more of it.

Mooi licht op de foto, mooi contrast en scherpte daar, John. Maar ook de graanhalmen zijn belangrijk hier. (Of is het koren? Ik ben een leek op dat vlak, vrees ik.) Knappe compositie.

Hello John,
This is a very beautiful windmill in the winter landscape.
The late afternoon sun ... makes this scenery so warm and appealing.
I like the grasses as f/g to block the canal as it's not in a straight line. Luckily, the camera did not focus on the grasses otherwise you'll have blurry windmill :-)
To be honest, I haven't got many pictures of windmills to my photo collections except Kinderdijk long time ago.

Hello John, a lovely composition with the great expanse of sky.
The lovely windmill being the main focal point, but it is the reeds bending in the wind that I particularly like.

Well at least I have a good excuse to go back to Holland and Belgium as all I saw was Amsterdam. This mill looks great against the blue sky. Good sharpness and crisp lighting. Tfs!
