Castle Oostkerke Damme

I know that the owner of this castle almost never somebody gives and permission for a visit.

It castles from Oostkerke was afternoon open door day as result of the canal celebrate of the Schipdon canal.

A first mention of a fortification (brick residential tower) in Oostkerke dates from around 1300. From a "court" is the first time in 1358 and the current castle is a remnant of the 14th century castle that stood here. It consisted of an upper and a court that were both surrounded and surrounded by a moat. Both courts were also protected by round corner towers, which is clearly visible in the garden.
The living quarters of the castle lords of Oostkerke were on the (now disappeared) upper court. In the court, where the current castle stands, there was, among other things, a castle (farm) and a pigeon tower. Pigeon towers were an expression of power and could only be built by the clergy and nobility in the Middle Ages.

Hello John,
This seems to be somebody's private home. It's not a bad house to live in, but cleaning it must take a lot of time. It looks quite magnificent even from a short distance, outside the walls and hedges. It is a perfectly sharp and as always well exposed photo with wonderful light and colours. It's a real joy to watch it.

Have you seen this on Beta?
The details are superb.
It looks more like a big, stately house than a castle, but who cares what the name is, it looks lovely and is very sharply captured in your photograph. I'm sure that I could count the number of stones in the walls or tiles on the roof if inspired!
You have also, given us some excellent details of the surrounding garden hedges, neatly trimmed, above which we can see the figures enjoying the practical experience.

Heel intrigerend aan dit grote huis / kasteel vind ik de omringende tuin. Muren en hoge planten lijken een soort labyrint te vormen.
Misschien wil eigenaar op die wijze beletten om belangstellenden tot aan de deur te geraken :)
Je hebt de foto wel vanop een goede hoogte genomen. Misschien vanop de eerste verdieping van de buren ...
Een mooie inkadering met de bomen links en met de nog kale takken van andere bomen bovenaan.

Hallo John,
Wat een prachtige plek met dit kasteel en de vele details van de gebouwen: ramen, luiken, kleine en grote dakkapellen, schoorstenen en torentjes. Dit alles wordt mooi omlijst door verschillende bomen, heggen en klimop in allerlei groene tinten. Het zachte licht laat alles mooi uitkomen en de scherpte is uitstekend.
