Photographer's Note
Staré Město: a pedestrian street, Michalská, near Staroměstské náměstí (Old Town Square), Prague.
No stories to tell about this one. Of course it's a Nothing Special, and it's been hanging around for quite a few years, but for some reason I'm quite fond of it...
Given the lack of EXIF data, I assume it was taken on the old Canon T90 film camera, in 2004.

Hello Will,
I guess we all have some photos we are fond of without being able to say exactly why. But this is a pretty, narrow street, it makes a nice bend, the buildings are picturesque and there is enough human presence to make it interesting. The arch frames the view well and B&W makes it look fairly timeless. So why not?
Best regards,
Gert

Hello Will,
It's a while since you posted but good to see this and with your favourite choice of b&w.
The archway is a good tool to act as a natural border and a very effective guide, along with the curving curb, to draw in would-be viewers.
I wonder if this is an early example of the outdoor use of a mobile phone. The lady in the f/g certainly looks to be using one.
Have a good, Bev :-)

Hello Will,
You use the frame of the gate as look through to the people in in background.
Excellent perspective and depth image.
Composition and presentation are pleasant to look at.
Very well done, TFS.
Best regards,
John.

Hello Will, maybe this scene reminds you of precisely when and where you were in this part of the city.
It is one of those intriguing shots where we want to know what is around the corner.
The arch frames the view of the narrow street very nicely, with just enough people so that we can still see all the features.
The b/w gives it a timeless quality.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hello Will
I like the full range of tones in this one. I think we all have an image that we keep around for no other reason we like them. My office is covered in them.

Hi Will
A good street photo and very appropriate in B&W. The curved street and people walking have made a good composition.
cheers

Hello Will,
It happens to me either from time to time that I bury my photos for a while and when I dig them up, I find them better. Anyway, I understand why you are fond of it: it is very carefully composed with the lines of the street leading my eyes and the play of the shadows and lights are excellent. The man with the mobile phone in the fg. is just the cherry on ice.
Best Wishes,
Gy.
PS: I was in Prague in 2004, however during the Summer and back than I was not involved in photography. My addiction only started some two years later.

Hi Will
Good to hear from you!
This is "nothing special" seen through master photographer's eyes. Did you compose the image first and the waited for the "right" people to turn up? I of course love the winding cobbled street and the arch framing the image at the top. The play of light and shadow is lovely and there are lots of details to look at such as the lamp or one open window interrupting the pattern of window frames.
Best wishes
Kasia
