Photographer's Note

The day when I shot this photo and how it came out was a good example of the weather conditions lately in south Finland. After several totally overcast days, the sky cleared up in the afternoon before sunset. I decided to drive to Haukilahti beach to catch the last autumn colours tehre. Already while driving to my destination which is only about 20 minutes drive from my home, clouds were fast filling the sky again. I thought that I would not be able to take any photos with sun. I was lucky though. The sky was already covered almost totally by dark clouds, but there was a narrow stripe of blue sky in the west and there was a peculiar low light for a moment, which painted the landscape in an orange glow against the dark clouds. This is one of the shots I was able to take before the sun was gone again and the landscape was back in the usual greyness of these days. This was also one of the last days, when one could still see some coloured leaves in the trees.

The place is along the Rantaraitti outdoor trail between Haukilahti beach and Toppelund. Rantaraitti is an outdoor trail that follows the southern shore of Espoo all the way from Laajalahti to Saunalahti. The total length of the trail is about 30 kilometres. Glimpses of urban dwellings and lush, intimate patches of nature interchange along the trail, as it winds along shoreline parks, boat harbours and beaches. You can see a map of this outdoor trail here from year 2007 with Finnish explanations. In 2 years more dotted lines have been changed to solid red lines, meaning that those sections are now solely intended for bikers and walkers.

Hej Lasse,
You were really lucky to have that short moment of this terrific light. The yellow leaves shine in a strange way under the dark sky. And in spite of the picture being dominated by three dark areas, it's this shining forest that gets the total attention.

A marvellous light over Pike Bay! This is a very fine picture with the rounded shore and the reflections of the perfect autumn colours in the water. The slight colour shades in the clouds are also a fine part of your picture!

This is one of the best autumn photos this year! Wonderful! It transmits a wonderful and nearly solemn atmosphere to the viewer. I also like this calmness in the scenery though it isn't far from your city. The thermos jug also here would serve its purpose ... ;-))
A place to stay a bit longer.

Una composizione affascinante Lasse!
I colori caldi del pomeriggio contro un cielo nuvoloso creano un bellissimo contrasto e una intensa atmosfera autunnale. Questa linea costiera di Espoo � veramente bella - sei fortunato a vivere un un posto cos� - La foto � ben composta con la curva della costa che crea un grande senso di profondit�. Belli anche i riflessi dorati nell'acqua.

Yes, it is very pretty.
The last moments of sun can give such a wonderful look to any location.
Very good composition, the receding foreground curving away to the horizon works very well.

this ray of gilded sun gives a pleasant coloration to the trees, opposing in marvelous way with the color of the sky. Excellent depth of field up to the house with the fireplace that smokes! Really a beautiful image, compote in perfect way. Bravo!
