Autumn in beach, a photo from Southern Finland, South

Photographer's Note

This bay is called Bredviken and is located in Westend district of the city of Espoo, only a stone cast from the motorway "L鋝iv鋣l�", which passes the southern parts of Espoo. This bay is about 1 km west from the place where I shot my previous photo. The small bay is used as a public beach in spite of the noise caused by 70000 vehicles driving daily along the motorway. I have been swimming here in my teens, when there was no motorway yet.

Westend is one of the wealthiest residential areas in Finland and is situated ten kilometers from the center of Helsinki in the south-east corner of Espoo.

This spot between the sea and the motorway carries nowadays a special interest in the planning of Espoo.
There is now a plan to build a spa hotel in this area. This beach will remain as a public beach according to the plans and also the seashore outdoor trail will be preserved, but the view certainly will change some from what you see here, even that the hotel building will locate in a spot behind my back here. An interesting detail from the history of Westend is that a hotel with a scenic restaurant was already planned here in 1934, but was never realized. On the right hand you see a small island which is connected to the main land with a bridge.

What beautiful soft light you have captured, it is a very pretty scene.
The little island with the tenacious trees looks wonderful.

It's like a painting - with a wonderful atmosphere of calm and wideness! The exposure of the clouds couldn't be better. The gap in the reed creates somehow a window to the lake. Again a place to sit down and marvel ...
Constructing a hotel there would be a crime ...

A beautiful photo, a month ago summer was definitely more present than today... Beautiful and typical suumer clouds and I like the way you let them dominate the picture. And i wonder how many international TE members here, who look at the map, realise that street names here are in both Finnish and Swedish...

the light is fine, the balance is good, it's a nice place, well composed shot and a good format, personal I would use a little more contrast, but of coarse that's a personal opinion, very good photo job, have a nice evening.

A wonderful seascape and beach!
Such a sweet, neat and harmonious composition. Maybe it's for the sky but it has a very peculiar atmosphere that I like very much. (I was going to say: "one of your best" but then I remembered you posted so many fine seascape so actually it's difficult di judge objectively). Anyway it gave me the thrill (as they say in England) from the first moment I opened it, and that's - I think- an important sign. It's so beautiful that I don't dare analyze it: I feel that in this case words are not proper and not needed. But I want to tell you something: there's something in "my style", it's a composition I would have chosen myself.

Hi Lasse -- You've captured that diminishing and slanting fall sunlight. I recognize the truth of that. Then there's those unsettled clouds bearing tons of moisture and that still, waiting earth. So nice. How nice to have walked these paths all your life. I've only lived here for 20 years but I watch the world change and I resist the urge to whine about that. A rather beautiful photo, Lasse. Almost like a painting. It's simple, for sure, but the light is absolutely wonderful, and the definition of the clouds combined with your careful composition, mean the photo has a lot of depth. You have a lovely gentle light there, falling on the sand and on the grasses. Hard to believe there is a motorway so close. It's a first class landscape photo.

I hope that men are intelligent as they were in 1934, because, as you say in the interesting notes, the landscape would be severely modified. Unfortunately, this is the price of progress. This is one of those photos that look very much like a painting. That is a compliment because it means there are clear artistic qualities. The light, and the fine nuances of the surface of the water, the sharp details of the reeds and most of all the magnificent clouds remind me of the work of a gifted painter.

Hello Lasse,
as a lover of the sky and clouds I must say that I very much like the big proportion of the sky in this photo! The fantastically shaped clouds add a special mood and are a curious balance for the tranquil and almost "simple" Earthly landscape. As always, you chose an interesting composition and an attractive view! But, in my opinion, it would be a pity if this tranquility will be destroyed by the "human intrusion". And maybe those who did not build a hotel in 1934 were right. Can't we leave Nature in peace one day?..
