Meeting place for farmers and mountain foothills, between Aragon and Bigourdans the 'Marcadieu' had its heyday in the nineteenth century with the trade of horses and mules to Spain. The days of 'big market' - on alternate Thursdays - he welcomed fifteen to twenty thousand people.
Today, the 'grand bargain' of Tarbes, around and under the Marcadieu hall, is still one of the largest markets in the Southwest, popular with street vendors and hawkers.
