Photographer's Note

Ch鈚eauredon Street (Noailles quarter), Marseille, Bouches-du-Rhone.

Unlike many European cities, Marseille has got very few parks in the center. So the people of Noailles neighborhood took matters in hand. Gradually, plants installed by residents take place on sidewalks. It began with Arc Street. Then Senac Street. A few steps away, the Ch鈚eauredon street followed suit. And possibly others in the neighborhood.

At the heart of this citizen initiative, the idea of re-appropriation of public space by residents. It is a great way to develop social cohesion. Gardeners residents meet, exchange, share. The social link is recreated. Moments of friendship develop, and that's a whole neighborhood that humanizes again.

The photo is not of high quality, with a very dark street and a white sky a little bit too burnt. But I especially wanted to show this beautiful Citizens' Initiative, an illustration of this "convivencia" Occitan, this "living together" specific to Southern cities.

To finish our little immersion in this lively area, I invite you to visit the blog the district of Noailles, whose name is (guess!), "Ch鈚eauredon Street."
