TOUR VAUBAN, KAMELED, BRO GERNE

THE GOLDEN TOWER, CAMARET, BRITTANY

This tower have been built from 1689 and 1694 by Vauban, and belong to a system of fortifications around the French coast. Crozon peninsula, who protected Brest harbour, offers a lot of these strong places. In 1694, the tower took a great role by preventing an attempt of landing by dutch and english troops. King Louis the fourteenth gave to Camaret the title of 揼uardian of the armorican coast�. The town became partly duty-free till the french revolution.

I'm more of Andre Maginot than Vauban fan, but your picture shows this interesting structure in a good, solid way...
