Photographer's Note

Place of Professor Jacques Boudouresques, Cours Julien district, Marseille, Bouches-du-Rh鬾e.

Detail of a window on the square of Sausage the dog (the proof in WS). Well, okay, this picture is the opportunity to talk about this famous dog called 揝ausage, that any Marseille inhabitant might know.

Sausage the dog, a dachshund, is a true mascot in Marseille. All started with a difficult "childhood" in a sensitive area of Marseille, where he served as a target for combat training for pitbulls. Found in poor condition in a bin, she has been collected by the SPA (a French association in charge of protection of animals), which made her operated on multiple occasions to treat her injuries. Unfortunately, her hangdog air hardly attracted adopters, and finally after 8 long months she joined a host family.

This family is 揕扙cailler du Sud, a Marseille publishing house specialized in thrillers, and more specifically Serge Scotto, novelist. Called 揝ausage (the nickname commonly given to dachshunds in France), she took interest in life and become a real star in her neighborhood. In 2001, her master decided to present the municipal elections of Marseille (she has been actually the mascot of an alternative list, which get nearly 4% of the votes), then to the 2002 presidential elections.

If you want to know what looks like Sausage the dog, here is her website.
