Vandalisme

Bonjour Philippe,
Vandalism and also terrorism is of all times. Reading about it is no so impressive as seeing it on TV, but it was always there. There are a lot of churches in the Netherlands that show us the results of the vandalism in the time of the “beeldenstorm”.

Bonjour Philippe,
Nice frontal view of the head-less statues. To my opinion, this was a "tradition" by the conquer when taken over another country, as we saw in Athena, Greece in many places - and we saw that still done in several places nowadays, both to human and to art elements.
Fine clear details shown.
Bonne Samedi,
Ike

Hello Philippe,
I did not realise that the word vandalism had such a long history; the things we learn through TE:-) Excellent capture of these decapitated statues. Very good rendering of the tones and textures. Such destruction has of course gone on since time immemorial and continues to this day.

Bonjour Philippe,

Buona domenica

Cher ami Philippe,
How sad that the vandals of the middle ages decapitated the statues, just as the fundamentalist vandals of modern times in Afghanistan, Syria and Iraq have decimated works of art. There is a limit to genius, but there is not limit to ignorance and stupidity.
Warm regards, my friend,
Bulent

hello Philippe,
Of course, I knew about Vandals and how they sacked Rome, but I had no idea who invented the word Vandalisme. But such senseless barbaric destruction was ever and still is. Sometimes from stupidity, frustration, very often from religious fanatism, like recently the acts of vandalism in Palmyra. here the image is very small (why?) and at the beginning I could not see. Yes, the figures had no heads. Muslims used to decapitate sculptures, were they there too?

Bonjour cher Philippe,
your composition and the brief note that accompanies make a strong impact, you chose a straightforward and eloquent way to touch a very unsettling subject. Your picture has excellent details, it gives us a partial but very interesting glimpse of the architecture, the line of headless statues makes a sad and captivating sight. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great evening,
Ourania

Hi Philippe
So sad when this happens but it has gone on for many years i guess! unfortunately it happens everywhere, sometimes on beautiful statues. A very well spotted and captured historical image, superb texture and tones. Thats life and how it always had been, great image and content though. Congrats
Best wishes

Bonjour Philippe,
Nice repetition of the headless statues. They were probably removed for sale on the black market, to finance the revolt. Good sharpness and perspective. Tfs!
