Photographer's Note
Good Morning Everyone,
This sculpture is to be found on a remarkable site!
It is on a site called the Valley of the Saints!
The site is in the heart of Brittany and dozens of statues of Breton saints have taken up residence on a hillside, whence they appear to be contemplating the landscape. Every year, some new giants are sculpted from the granite, so the landscape is continually changing.
This sculpture shows a saint praying. In the workshop you will see him in a boat. It could be a reference to Noah or a saint giving thanks for arriving safely in a new land.
Around 1500 years ago, priests and monks coming from Great Britain landed on the coast of Brittany. Some, like Malo or Brieuc, have left their mark on the region. In the village of Carno雝, sculptors have created giant four-metre high granite statues of saints and placed them on a feudal mound with views stretching out as far as the Monts d'Arr閑 mountains. Each one has its own particular style: one looks like the Petit Prince, another a North American Indian. In 2015, there were already around fifty statues. I'm not sure how many there are now!
Thank you for your interest, Bev :-)

Hello Bev,
I see you have posted a couple of photos from this place before. Those pictures made a different impression because of the great number of sculptures and people watching them, but here we get a closer view of just one. It is no less amazing, and I also prefer this version with the saint standing tall in front of the blue sky. This reminds me slightly of the "Hill of Crosses" in Lithuania, where constantly crosses of all designs are added to a spontaneous sanctuary grown into a kind of sculpture park. This also looks like a fascinating place.
Best regards,
Gert

Hello Beverley, an imposing statue, made more so by your upward looking point of view.
The workshop shot gives us a good impression, but this is the stronger of the two shots.
Is the statue sculpted from granite?
Seeing a hillside covered with statues must be quite a sight.
Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hello Beverley,
An excellent and very sharp photo of this impressive sculpture, which you captured from a good, low viewpoint, which makes it stand out so well from the blue sky. Nice, clear sunlight also, which highlights the textures of the stone.

Dear Beverley,
Its a nice portrayal of the saint. We have a similar statue in the nearby of my hometown portraying Jesus Christ.
Best Wishes,

Hi Bev,it is really an interesting post, I did not know it, and the fact that it is constantly evolving and enriched is a reason to go back to those who have already been there. Beautiful photos of this saint who could actually remember Noah or a protector of fishermen. The WS shows the boat well, excellent quality. Have a nice day and thanks,Luciano

Hi Bev,
People with scarves on their heads standing on the boats at the north coast of France. I am not going to attempt to interpret it.
Beautiful blue sky, which makes a wonderful background to the statue.
Great reportage,

A beautiful portrait of this sacred statue. The workshop photo gives us a clearer view. Sculptures are always attractive to me. Good text about the history of these sculptures. Exposure and sharpness well done. Well seen. Thanks for sharing

bev
curious aspect of this statue, it is modernist in the lower part, but it is almost classic-primitive in the face of the saint, a not right balance of styles. an excellent image with good quality. the ws shows us the boat, that is an interesting detail.
take care

Hello Beverly,
Two lovely photos, I am a bit partial to the WS photo because it includes the boat on which he presumably came.
