Photographer's Note
Recent uploads on TrekEarth have revealed that the entire square has now been paved over. So this scene no longer exists or is buried under concrete. It would have been nice to see a memorial to the estimated 22,700-25,000 people who died in the horrific bombing of Dresden in February 1945. Perhaps one exists, but I never saw it. All I could find on Google Images was this:

In Britain, 43,000 people were killed in German air raids, almost half of those in London. Here's a link with more information and photos.

An interesting photo essay on the ruined city slowly being repaired.

Hello Chris, good view from above the old ruins. Most of Dresden was renovated after WW2, probably this was left intact as a memorial.
Wish you a nice weekend,
Ike

Hello Chris,
I had no idea there were ruins like these in Dresden as recently as 2014. Can we trust this was not taken in 1954? ;-) I saw lots of ruins here in 1970, but I thought they had all been taken care of long ago. Interesting.

Gert

Hi Chris, lately everyone is looking in the archives due to the absence of new trips, and it is certainly interesting to propose places that no longer exist, even if the photo is only 7 years ago. A memory of a period that we hope to never relive again, after the bombing of Dresden, a perfect and truly unmissable capture. Have a nice weekend and thanks,Luciano

Hello Chris,
Just a section of this, left untouched, would have created a strong, emotional response, especially as a contrast with modern, functional buildings nearby.
Could you imagine your own house being such a ruin ... and what happened to the people inside it!
Have a good w/e,
Bev :-)

Hello Chris,
You can't pave away history and it is good tat you have preserved some of the old ruins before they tried to.
Thanks and regards,
Gerrit

Bonjour Chris,
La végétation donne une touche de nature à la scène. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails des ruines des immeubles à Dresden. La lumière donne de belles teintes aux couleurs de l'image. Bonne journée.

Hi Chris
Interesting post and it's a bit sad indeed if these ruin have now disappeared and the loss of lives has been forgotten. Nice photo and a gentle reminder of horrors of war, now that we've been enjoying peace in Europe for so long.
Best wishes
Kasia

Hello Chris,
A good photo of these sad remnants of the bombing of Dresden. You placed the low walls and narrow paths nicely into the composition. The yellowish tones stand out well also.

Hello Chris,
One of my friends was on 30km of Dresden during the heavy bombing, the man could everything still to tell.
One of the most heavy bombings during WWII.
Pleasant detailed too, sharp and clear presentation
Very well done, TFS.
Have a nice weekend,
John.

Hi Chris,
Very interesting reportage.
It is really hard to feel sorry for Germans in this respect.
Millions of people were killed or simply murdered, most of Polish tows were destroyed in the war which Germans started.
Visiting places like this they should remember what they have started but instead they are lamenting over damage which was caused directly by their greed, arrogance and the desire to take over the whole world.
Very well done,
M

hello Chris, I was in Dresden more than forty years ago. Then the whole city centre was still in ruins. But that time, I took very few photos. Pity, it would be the reportage of the past. Life must go on. Warsaw was very quickly rebuilt, I do not remember ruins although I was born in 1946. Only the borders of the Ghetto are indicated in the pavement.
Interesting picture.
Best regards MAlgo

Hello Chris,
Burying these ruins underground is a crime against history. I am glad you have a record.
