Photographer's Note
The village of Eckweiler was situated only 400 m beside the runway of Pferdsfeld Airbase in the Hunsrück uplands. Flight traffic noise became unbearable when the F-4F "Phantom" went into German service, so Eckweiler and neighbouring Pferdsfeld were abandoned and later torn down. Even the Soviet TV reported. Only two farms of Pferdsfeld and Eckweiler church remained intact, admidst former village streets which now look like overdimensioned farm tracks.
In 1997, Pferdsfeld Airbase was abandoned itself after the breakdown of the Warsaw Pact. They called it the "peace dividend".
But the villages did not come back again.

HI Sven,an interesting story about these villages, displaced by too much noise, I live a few kilometers from Malpensa airport and I can't stand the noisy night cargo .. ehehe .. nice capture of the church that has remained intact. Happy Easter and thank you! Luciano

Hello dear Sven and have a nice day
and a happy week end
classical view with simplicity
and my personal opinion is
that the beauty is into
the simplicity!!!!
this small church stands perfectly
in this landscape with the national
framing of the branches and the
leaves of the tree
regards

Small but with nice style.
