Photographer's Note

The major problem caused by floodings is the loss of infrastructure:
gas lines gone, lack of electricity, mobile phone net collapsed, sewage pipes and plants partly or completely destroyed.
This is Sinzig sewage plant, one of only two which could be restored to full operation. A third one is a provisory mobile plant operated by the German Red Cross (intended for air lift mobility for emergencies abroad), a fourth one has also been completed in the meantime.
Anyway: the bed of Ahr river does not show much difference to the situation one year ago. Many sewage pipes are only temporary solutions, and Ahr valley bike trail is still interrupted.
