Monaise Castle, a photo from Rheinland-Pfalz, West

Photographer's Note

The early classicist style Castle Monaise is located near the district of Trier-Zewen. It was constructed by the French architect Francois Ignace Mangin between 1779 and 1783 as a summer residence. Spacious reception rooms are situated on the main floor of this summer palace. Additionally it was equipped with a large terrace and an outside staircase.
The building in the style of Louis XVI is surrounded by a sandstone balustrade and four corner pavilions. After several changes of owner it was disused for many years. Renovation always failed due to lack of funding. Not until subsidies from the German Conservation Foundation, the state of Rheinland-Pfalz and the Federal Interior Ministry were made available in 1992 could the castle be restored. The castle has been used as a gourmet restaurant since 1997 and the grounds as an equestrian park for the Post Office Sports Club.

Hello Jean-Claude,
You obviously have a liking for symmetry. This very square building is ideal for this kind of composition, just as the grey sky favours a very mild colour scheme. It's a nice view and the photo is very cleverly taken.

This is a fine building, very imposing in its upright symmetrical design, which your photograph captures very well. You have included the steps well, as a natural guide towards the building.
It was pleasing to hear that monies have been made available to save it from becoming a ruin.

gotta love this one. I know the lighting wasn't in your favour, but who cares here, the Castle is just so good.
but what a shame that its now being used as an upscale restaurant, thats too bad. I think it deserves more than that.
so classic and stoic in its exterior. Love to see interior shots, and I wonder what they've done to the bedrooms etc...the restaurant can't be everywhere. cheers
