Frauenkirche

One of the most iconic buildings in Munich is probably the Frauenkirche (officially: Dom zu Unserer Lieben Frau, Cathedral of Our Dear Lady). Its two towers are 99 metres tall and as it is prohibited to build higher than 99 metres in Munich city centre, the twin towers can be seen from many parts of the city. The Gothic church was built in the 12th century, it was severely damaged in WWII and renovation works were completed in 1994. The photo was taken from the square called Marienplatz and the sculpture in the foreground sits atop the Mariens鋟le (Mary抯 Column), Mary is the protector of Bavaria.
