The Port of Piraeus is the chief sea port of Athens, Greece, located on the Saronic Gulf on the western coasts of the Aegean Sea, the largest port in Greece and one of the largest in Europe.

With about 18.6 million passengers Piraeus was the busiest passenger port in Europe in 2014. According to Lloyd's list for top 100 container ports in 2015 Piraeus ranked 8th in Europe and 3rd the Mediterranean sea.

Until the 3rd millennium BC, Piraeus was a rocky island connected to the mainland by a low-lying stretch of land that was flooded with sea water most of the year.In 493 BC, Themistocles initiated the fortifications of Piraeus and later advised the Athenians to take advantage of its natural harbours' strategic potential. In 483 BC, the Athenian fleet left the older harbour of Phaleron and it was transferred to Piraeus, distinguishing itself at the battle of Salamis between the Greek city-states and the Persians in 480 BC. In the following years Themistocles initiated the construction of the port and created the ship sheds (neosoikoi), while the Themistoclean Walls were completed in 471 BC, turning Piraeus into a great military and commercial harbour, which served as the permanent navy base for the mighty Athenian fleet.

The presenc eof the man is animating the scene. The point of view is showing the details of the ship. The colors and the sharpness are vey good. Have a nice day.

Interesantan pogled i trenutak, dobar tekst ...
Lepa luka sa brodom i ar5hitektura na obali, dobro pokazano sa lepim bojama, kontrastom, perspektivom i uhvacenim trenutkom sa ribolovcem.
Ja sam strastven ribolovac, uzivao bih na doku u ribolovu i lepom pogledu.
Dobar rad, lepa fotografija.
Lepo mesto za odmor i ribolov sa lepim pogledom.
Dolazak oblaka najavljuje promenu vremena.

Hello Piotr,
I love this photo where the fisherman is a very good complement to the view of the ferry. I appreciate his presence to animate the view generally, but his red and white striped shirt also matches the red and white ferry perfectly. I also like the yellow bollards, the diagonal position of the quay and its opposing black and yellow diagonal lines. The typical evening clouds and the fading orange light create a good atmosphere.

A nice view of the port with the large ferry arriving in the evening dusk. The clouds look good in the blue colours of the sky. Nice inclusion of the man at right as well.

Hi Piotr,
Slightly dark exposure gives exactly right impression of the blue hour light. The ferry is well placed arriving at the harbour. And so is that fisherman. His red and white shirt matches well with the ferry.

Czesc Piotr,
Mialem okazje zawitac a nawet odplywac z tego portu ale to bylo w czasach kiedy uzywalem okropnego malego aparatu kompaktowego... Podczas ostatniej wizyty w Atenach skupilem sie na samym centrum a i tak pomimo kilku dni czasu mi zabraklo...
Bardzo fajna atmosfera. Ja ostatnio bardziej rozjasniam zdjecia zeby nie wypadly zbyt ciemno ale jak sie za bardzo rozjasni to mozna stracic te atmosfere wlasnie.
Ten ogromny prom kontrastuje z wedkowiczem :) Ale przede wsyzstkim fajne niebo.

Taken at dawn or dusk? Either way it is a good photo capturing the light on the ship which looks like a passenger and car ferry.
