Agios Minas Cathedral, a photo from Iraklion, Crete

Photographer's Note

The Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Agios Minas is the seat of the Archbishop of Crete. It was built between 1862 and 1895, when Crete still was an Otoman possession. According to a legend, it is located on the place where Saint Minas, the patron saint of Crete appear to a monk in a vision.

HI Jose,very original orthodox architechture from Crete,i missed this beauty in my vacation there,the pic is absolutely perfect,great exposure of the hard light on the facade and fine detail everywhere,and the old women walking are like the umbrellas on the cocktail,perfect to complete the view in the best way.Have a nice day and thanks,Luciano

Hello Jose, Interesting church, it doesn't look very much as Orthodox church (the crosses are like in catholic) and also the colours are not like typical Greek. Nice picture and good including the elederly women going there.

Hello Jose - The dark tones in this shot appeal to me; there are no burnt highlights in spite of the light. The colours are lovely and rich and details well rendered. The church is beautiful and the two women walking towards it completes a very nice shot.

A superb viewpoint and the freshly cleaned cream colour makes a lovely image of the cathedral which stands projected in the remarkable sunshine sets against the deep blue sky. There's plenty of detail and good sense depth to the image and inclusion of the figs is wise decision and timed adding so much live and scale. A spectacular edifice thoughtfully shot, Congrats

magnificent archi.-design of the church's facade, taken with side light that enhanced its outlines and the marvelous archs and depicted art elements.
The two elderly ladies walk towards the entrance gave good scale to appreciate the size of the building.

sometimes the smallest of subjects make all the difference.

the older lady in the blue dress with the cane is the star of the show, at least in my opinion anyways :)

take away the lady and it just wouldn't have the same sort of impact.

This is a nicely composed shot, perfectly balanced and with excellent sharpness and detail. The addition of the two women in the foreground adds life to the scene as well as a sense of scale. The lighting is great which is yielding fine color.

Wonderful picture of the church, which to me has a very different design and style. Minus the cross, looks less a church. The contrast of the blue polarised sky with the cream coloured church is very attractive. The two persons add scale and life elements.
