Photographer's Note
My previous post showed the beginning of our 2017 trip from Crete (Chania) to Rodos. A table with a view that some of you found quite inviting.
This is an altogether different kind of shot from the same trip, but near the end of it.
---
SYMI is a mountainous island in the Dodeskanesos. Its economy was traditionally based on shipbuilding and sponge fishing. These days tourism is its main source of income.
Its Italianate harbour is very popular with yachts and really feels like a place that wants to be seen. Symi is pronounced "See me!".
I've obliged and posted some pictures of it.
BUT THIS PICTURE was shot in a rather shabby street leading up from the harbour towards the upper town (the Chora), which is much quieter and you get the best views for free. On the way there is lots of old architecture to admire, beautifully rundown sometimes.
The kid passing by was just my luck, sort of. Always a bit tricky to see how it turns out. In this case I liked it and I was a bit surprised I hadn't included this picture in my travelogue yet.

Hello Benny,
I once posted a similar photo I called "Naughty boy spoiled my photo", but many years later I had forgiven him and admitted he made the picture more interesting. This boy did you a similar service by adding a sense of life to what had been a nice and colourful but dead view.
Regards,
Gert

Hallo Benny,
Vele groeten, Paul

Hi Benny,
That old door is quite surprising with a patch of rusty brown paint. Those stones are strangely placed too. The boy is just on the right place, not covering the main subject.

Pozdrav.
Lep pogled i trenutak, interesantan i dobar tekst ...
Lepa stara fasad sa drvenim vratima, dobro pokazano sa lepim bojama, kontrastom i uhavcenim trenutkom sa prolaznikom.
Dobar rad, lepa fotografija.
Decak je doprineo da fotografija pokaze svakodnevni zivot i dogadjaje na ulici.
Zelim vam lepu i mirnu noc, sve najbolje.

Hallo Benny,
Een mooie foto van deze oude houten deur, die ook wordt omgegeven door een oud gevel vol met details. De grote rode vlek maakt een mooi contrast met de groene deur. Goed gezien in helder licht.

Hi Benny,i know this island and it's nice to see a very original and different pic from there, a curious door with a touch of red, abandoned since longtime and taken in a perfect way, with the special bonus of guy passing...well done! Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Hello Benny,
Goed foto werk, bedankt.
Groeten uit Oost-Vlaanderen,

Hi Benny
This shot for me always tells a story and why do we love old rustic image. Love this shot for its beautiful architecture in decay and full of wonderful textures, tones and colour. The splash of red lends this a great lift where the eye drawn to it as a focal point. Well spotted
Best regards

Hello Benny,
Most tourist would hate if someone 'ruined' their carefully composed photograph. But as a good TreakEarthian, you showed this photo for us. I'm glad you did it!
Best Wishes,
Gy.

Hello Benny,
Picturesque abandoned house, nice old door with the red patch. I wonder why these stones are left there. The appearance of the boy makes it more interesting.

Hi Benny
I am not so much a people person, photographically speaking. Unless they are circus performers like in your other photo I have seen recently, ha ha
So I would probably prefer the doors without the boy.
It does look shabby indeed. However in the south you sort of assume it may be part of the style, part of the atmosphere.
Great sharpness and the colors,
M

Hello Benny,
I agree that this is beautifully run-down. The grand old door is quite charming.
