Ships undergo nearly constant maintenance during their career, whether they be underway, pier side, or in some cases, in periods of reduced operating status between charters or shipping seasons.

Most ships, however, require trips to special facilities such as a dry dock at regular intervals. Tasks often done at drydock include removing biological growths on the hull, sandblasting and repainting the hull, and replacing sacrificial anodes used to protect submerged equipment from corrosion. Major repairs to the propulsion and steering systems as well as major electrical systems are also often performed at dry dock.

Vessels that sustain major damage at sea may be repaired at a facility equipped for major repairs, such as a shipyard. Ships may also be converted for a new purpose: oil tankers are often converted into floating production storage and offloading units...Wikipedia

superb composition with great pov. The aged liner rising up against the clear blue sky has a great visual impact. Excellent picture with minimum elements. The colours are natural and the details revealed in perfect clarity.

Those signs of rust certainly makes this ship more picturesque. Close and low angle gives it massive appearance. Quite impressive view of the old giant.

Quite a dramatic picture, a subject that has seen much life and now badly in need of major repairs. I love the pp treatment and the rustic feel and there's a feel of depth, perspective and great contrast to blue background with good feel of scale. Hello Georgios,

This is a superb shot of the "rusty scupper," as old ships are often called in English. It is the type of ship I would associate with Coleridge's "Rime of the Ancient Mariner." The portrait format is well chosen.

one of my all time favorite subjects.

this one looks like its been used quite alot.
love the rust dripping down the hull, love the blue sky and clouds. its a perfect exposure.
