Venus in Conchiglia - Pompeii

One of the most famous frescoes in Pompeii, two cupids accompany Venus, protector of Pompeii, lying in a large shell. The goddess, completely naked, wears only a diadem on her head and jewels around her neck, wrists and ankles.
The fresco, of great quality in the execution of her face, reveals itself to be awkward in the posture of her legs.
The House of the Venus in the Shell (II.3.3), also called the House of the Venus Marina or the House of D. Lucretii Satrii Valentes, was built in the first century. B.C. and it underwent a series of profound transformations of its internal organization. Excavated from 1933 to 1935 and from 1951 to 1953. The house belonged to a branch of the Satrii family, highly visible in the last years of the city's life.
