Photographer's Note
During my first visit in Rome, back in 2011, I've experienced 10 days of 40 degrees Celsius so, every shady place was quite a bless.
________
This is Santi Luca e Martina, a church situated between the Roman Forum and the Forum of Caesar and close to the Arch of Septimus Severus. The church was initially dedicated to Saint Martina, martyred in 228 AD during the reign of Emperor Alexander Severus. In 625 Pope Honorius I commissioned construction of the church. Restored first in 1256 during the reign of Pope Alexander IV, it was a simple rectangular structure surrounded on three sides by other constructions until it was rebuilt by the painter and architect, Pietro da Cortona, in the seventeenth century.

Hi Daniel
A good one from 10 years ago on a hot day.
I have a basic rule - I don't go anywhere around that part of Europe in July and August.
Good light management here giving us plenty of detail is the shaded cooler areas.
cheers

Hello Serghei,
The first time I went south was to Rome in July 1969, and that was the first time I was overwhelmed by the heat. But it was still far from 40 degrees. Today's climate is getting unbearable, so you were wise to stay in the shade. The shady foreground benefits the photo. The street looks like it has been there since ancient days.

Gert

Hi Daniel
I would agree to you and Ian, don't go in August, way too hot.
great to see you posting shots again. this is a unique view point, one we just don't see often, if ever. Nice to have the shade and light combo, love seeing the large cobblestones and the history here. cheers

Hi Daniel,
Missed this one. Yes, Florence was the same when I visited in 2013. Hot! The shadow detail is excellent. God sharpness and the bg domed basilica makes a good focal point. Tfs!
