Photographer's Note

The octagonal dome of the Basilica Santa Maria Maggiore is very ornate. Unlike the exterior, with the severe Romanesque-Lombard of the twelfth century, the gilding and paintings dating from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries are typically of baroque style.

These ceilings are one of several treasures of the basilica. The choir is decorated with such remarkable inlaid panels. Outside, the north entrance (on the Piazza del Duomo) and the southern entrance (on the piazza Rosate) have beautiful portals, based on lions (photo to come).

Hello Delphine,

I see here another of your lovely pictures of a dome from inside! What a shot! I presume that you did the same thing as before - lay your camera on its back and took the picture.

The detail and clarity and sharpness in this picture are amazing. Beautiful colours and perfect exposure. The beam of light coming through the window at bottom right just adds magic to the whole image.

Oh, let's see more of these!

Quel superbe "plafonnier" ! Tout est dans la richesse et la finesse des d閠ails associ閟 � une parfaite ma顃rise de la lumi鑢e. Le cadrage parfait met bien en 関idence la sym閠rie de l'architecture et des motifs. La lumi鑢e "divine" qui p閚鑤re le d鬽e semble donner vie � ce magnifique d閏or. Un v閞itable chef-d'oeuvre.

c'est une autre prise magnifique int閞ieure de la Basilique, que tu as r閍lis閑 au moyen d'une spectaculaire contre-plong閑.
Dans cette occasion, tu as magistralement mis � profit la lumi鑢e qui entrait par les fen阾res, pour cr閑r une atmosph鑢e tr鑣 esth閠ique dans ce toit merveilleux, en ajoutant une touche presque mystique � la sc鑞e.
C'est une composition excellente.

una divina luce ma anche una divina fotografia! Hai fatto semplicemente un capolavoro, ottenendo una immagine perfettamente simmetrica ma soprattutto con una incredibile nitidezza, molto difficile negli interni delle chiese. Quel raggio di sole che entra dalla finestra � veramente divino, e sembra premiarti per questo eccellente lavoro che hai fatto. Apprezzo particolarmente questa foto, perch� anche io sono un amante di questi POV. Bravissima!

This is simply magnificent. Even without the ray of light, the photo has such amazing detail and beautiful light management. The architecture is awe=inspiring. But with the ray of light beaming through the right lower window, the photo is a masterpiece. Congratulations, felicitations.
