Photographer's Note

Archaeological excavations show that people lived in the South Tyrol in the Stone Age. At different times the province was a part of the Roman Empire, a place of settlement of the tribes of barbarians, was ruled by France, was the subject of dispute between the Bavarian House of Wittelsbach and the Austrian Habsburgs, in the 19th century South Tyrol became the part of Austria-Hungary. After the First World War, the land ceded to Italy.
