Photographer's Note
Good Morning Everyone,
Even in places like Florence, reputed for its warm summer weather, sometimes it rains! And on this day, it really did rain hard for a couple of hours!
I had to laugh at the entrepreneurial spirit of the street traders! They had been selling jewellery and Italian mementos a few minutes before this rainstorm. Suddenly, they were selling umbrellas and pac-a-macs!
This is Piazza della Santissima Annunziata, arguably one of the most beautiful and harmonious squares in Florence. It exemplifies the ideals of Renaissance architecture with works by some of the greatest artists and architects of the period. The piazza is surrounded on three sides by balanced porticoes, with the mostly southern oriented side opening on to Via dei Servi. - Wikipedia
Even though the clouds were dark and the rain was falling, there was still a great beauty to be seen in the setting.
I will add another close-up of the rain, as a workshop.
I'm glad to say the weather is fine and bright in my village, at the moment, after a heavy deluge of rain last night, Bev :-)

Hi Bev,not a lucky day but fortunately it did not last long, and it was certainly better than the 40 degrees that are experienced these days in central and southern Italy. Excellent opportunity to take some nice "wet" photos like this one, excellent idea the WS that looks like a micro-flood .. ahhaa .. Have a nice day and thanks,Luciano.

Hello Bev,
This photo indicates that no weather is automatically bad for photography. The dark clouds and the wet ground create an atmosphere that is not at all unattractive. And the rain forced people to carry umbrellas, which was also not bad. But regardless of the light and the weather this photo gains much from its composition of diagonals and depth and the church tower seen between two of the columns. In the WS you created a nice work of art. Can rain be regarded as an installation? ;-)
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello Bev,
The colonnaded porch at left adds good lead in lines and perspective. The fountain makes a nice centrepiece in the piazza. Good sharpness with an excellent diffused light. Tfs!

Good evening Beverley,
Indeed, on that day we were in Siena and the torrential rain caught us while walking in the old town. That's why I have only few photos from there.
Despite the rain, and maybe because of theb rain, you chosen a special POV under the ancient arcade in a p;iazza that I am sure we did not visit. Otherwise I'd remember the place.
My best regards,
Ike

Hi Bevè
I like the effect of the rain on the picture. The point of view is showing the details of the foutain and of the buildings. The rainy sky is giving a good contrast to the colors pof the picture. Have a nice day.

Hello Beverley,
Most people prefer sunny weather during their travels. I certainly do.
But you clearly managed to take a very beautiful picture of a wet Firenze.
Attractive composition and a great clear view of the building and the many columns while the sky looks dark and threatening.
I just heard in the news that July 2021 was the second warmest in 40 years in most places in Europe. However, in Belgium, July was colder than normal. In addition, much wetter than usual.
Moreover, it was a disaster month in certain areas with flooding, a lot of damage to houses and even a number of deaths. Hopefully August will be a bit better.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Bev,
I remember well this square. The building behind the fountain is Santissima annunziata Church, on your back is Ospedale Degli Innocenti designed by Brunelleschi. Not far from there is a fantastic Museo di San Marco with marvellous works by fra (Beato) Angelico. Have you been there? In spite of the rain, the colours are fine. Best regrads MAlgo

Hello dear beverley and have a nice day
I love the rain and I hope
that soon the weather will change
here in Greece ...the temperature
is about 46 degrees for many days
and the fires have no end...
lets hope that a heavy rain
will save all the districts
suffering from fires...

Hello Beverley, an excellent composition with lots of lines going in different directions and interesting shapes.
The rain has actually created a good effect with the light reflected on the puddles.
Nearly everyone has gone to shelter apart from one or two brave people with their umbrellas.
I like the w/s shot too, good observation.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hello Bev,
Yeah, normally we see ..... blue sky with lovely sunshine. It's very definitely different to see the rain bucketing down in Florence and the dark clouds looming over the square. For one person ( blue brolly ) I see ... running frantically to escape the rain and another one ( white brolly ) cool as a cucumber absorbing the rain. The rest ... well, can't be bothered :-)
It's a fantastic picture considering the circumstances , poor light and very very wet like the WS1.
Ha!ha!ha! I don't know why either. It's a very good deluge of rain ... looks very inviting , shall I say ... why not trying to 'get your feet wet' , feet wet :-)
Thanks for sharing 'Wet Florence'.

Hi Bev
Sometimes rainy pictures can be most effective, as is this one.The light building at the end is a good contrast to the dark sky.. I like the figure striding across with the white umbrella.

Dear Beverley,
This rare phenomenon, namely the rain in Florence created a very photogenic scene. Of course the well-chosen POV and the utilization of the arch is also an important part of creating such a good photograph.
Best Wishes,
Gy.

sometimes the dark sky of storms adds a special mood for photos. I only don't like white sky.
very nice view of this part of the city. I don't remember rain in my italian trip, at least real rain. in places like southern portugal, spain of italy or greece is almost impossible to face rain from july to august.
here another dry, sunny sunday, the lower temperatures were gone and we can feel a touch of spring.
take care

Hello Beverly,
I never doubted that. However, the only time I was there was in bright sunshine.

Hi Bev
great to see you posting new photos again, but I'll head back a bit to this one. I like your comment about the street traders, that's too funny, I guess they come to work prepared. here is proof that before and after a rainfall (or during), the lighting is so good, the visual is great. this diffused lighting is one of my favorite types to shoot in. looks so good. cheers

Hi Bev.
Wonderful square with this beautiful harmony that the porticoes of such stylized and elegant lines give, the rain gives a beautiful effect to the pavement, ideal as you have played with perspective, with the columns of the left portico also framing the belfry of a tower.
Great color that brings out the details of the image.
Very well managed both the brightness and the sharpness of the image.
Nice work. That we enjoy.
Have a nice day.
Very best regards.
Lewis.
