Photographer's Note
Abbey of St. Julian rnrnThe complex dates back to the twelfth century as a whole, but the first hermits attendance at the place date back to the beginnings of Christianity. rnAccording to an ancient tradition, a matron named Gregoria would donate his possessions on the hill Monteluco at St. Isaac, monk from Syria arrived in Spoleto, to allow him to build a church and monastery that existed in the late sixth century because it is mentioned in two letters of Pope Pelagius I. He later became a Benedictine abbey, the first line of Cassino, then by Cluny and it had formed part of the hermits of Monteluco that, after the death of St. Isaac, were joined part of the Benedictine family. rnThe abbey was suppressed in the late fifteenth century by Pope Innocent VIII in 1502 and went to the Lateran Canons, who ruled for half a century. At the beginning of the nineteenth century resulted destroyed by time unknown. The church, which was also abandoned, passed into private hands and was even used as a barn. Only in the early years of the '900 the City will successfully claimed the property. rnThe facade of the Church is to be mutilated in the upper part, which was to be pitched. Fragments of the early Christian building, probably the lintel of the enclosure of the sanctuary, are re-used in the portal crowned by an elegant three-light window. In the relief of the portal you can see the reasons for roof tiles and clovers, symbolic animals (two young pigeons, an ox, a panther, a peacock), plant motifs, a cross, a centaur.rnThe interior of a basilica with three naves and three apses semicircular crypt is decorated by local artists of the fifteenth century. The central apse fresco of the Coronation of the Virgin and the saints and blessed, commissioned in 1442 by the abbot Argento Campello, is the work of the Master of Eggi.r

Hello Silvio,
This is a fascinating building. It's so empty and neglected, but the rows of plain columns create a magnificent view towards the apse, where the light is streaming through a window and we see the remains of frescos.
Best regards,
Gert

Ciao Silvio,
These heavy columns make a great impression. Of course pity that they are so rough and damaged but their shape is enough to convince us about their former glory.
The altar in the centre seems to have preserved more details.
Very nice central symmetry here,
M

Ciao Silvio,
Good repetition of the columns and their Doric capitals. Excellent sharpness and perspective and the bg altar with its rust red colour contrasts well with the mostly almost b&w & grey tones Tfs!

Hi Silvio,
La longueur de la nef donne de la profondeur à la composition. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails de l'intérieur de la chapelle de l'abbaye de Saint-Julien. La lumière environnante a un bel effet sur les couleurs de l'image. Bonne journée.

Hello Silvio,
A great view down the middle of this old abbey with its massive white columns and arches on either side, which create a nice perspective towards the artwork still visible in the distance. Well done.

Ciao SIlvio, simmetria non eccezzionale ma non bisogna sempre seguire obbligatoriamente questa regola, la qualita' è eccellente ed anche i dettagli delle decorazioni dietro l'altare risaltano alla grande. Buona serata,Luciano

Buongiorno Silvio,
The peeled plaster upon the pillars and the ragged floor are evident to the ancient existance of this place.
Managed well with the scanty outside light, a fairly good outcome.
Arrivederci,
Ike

Hello Silvio,
Good light management in difficult light. I like the sense of depth generated by the repeating columns.
