Hall of Coriolano - Palazzo Cesi - Acquasparta (TR)
Sixteenth-century residence of one of the illustrious and prestigious Umbrian-Roman families and headquarters in the early seventeenth century. of the scientific activity of Prince Federico and the first Accademia dei Lincei. The Cesi family included magistrates, cardinals of the Holy Roman Church, friars, bishops and blessed men. Among their residences, the most eminent is that of Acquasparta, the center of a fiefdom that in 1540 Gian Giacomo Cesi and his wife Isabella di Alviano obtained from Pier Luigi Farnese. The splendid residence was built on the site of a fortress destroyed in the early sixteenth century during the wars between Todi, Terni and Spoleto and of which the towers are the only surviving structures. The main floor is characterized not only by frescoes by magnificent wooden coffered ceilings with carvings, which still testify today to the richness of the decoration of the rooms, made on designs by Giovanni Domenico Bianchi and perhaps inspired by those of Palazzo Farnese in Rome. more important than this very high craftsmanship in the Roman area.
The coat of arms of the Cesi family is depicted here
