Montecchio - Giano dell扷mbria (PG)
In a dominant position along the Via Flaminia Vetus, which reached Foligno from Massa Martana, it became an important castrum, incorporated into the so-called Normandy. It was fortified in the 10th century and in the 12th century it was subjected to the lords of Giano, then it became a rural municipality with the other two settlements of Castagnola and Morcicchia. It underwent various dominations, due to its strategic position: the city of Spoleto, the Lordship of the Atti di Todi and that of the Trinci di Foligno; in 1479 it passed under the jurisdiction of Bartolomeo della Rovere who had received it from his uncle, the famous Pope Sixtus IV. Being one of the centers along the Via Flaminia, in 1530 its walls hosted Pope Clement VII for a few days, on his way to Rome, while in 1553 he was unfortunately attacked by French troops bound for Naples, and the inhabitants were forced to take refuge in the surrounding mountains.
The castle still retains, almost unchanged, part of the walls, built in the 12th century and rebuilt in the 14th; the access door, which is still used today, is equipped with coats of arms, among which the Spoleto coat of arms stands out.

It's a beautiful view of the village climbing the sides of the low, green hill surrounded by green agricultural fields. The clouds fill the sky nicely and create an atmosphere of a warm summer day. Colours, light and contrasts are very well managed.

A wonderful view of this village on and around the hill, the sunlight was perfect and the houses and the trees stand out perfectly from the hazy, light blue sky.

It is interesting that the settlements are on the hilltops. For protection or for best use of agricultural land, I wonder. A little of both, perhaps.

Lovely capture of the village nicely located on top of the hill. Your point of view was probably on a neighbouring hill, the elevated perspective made a difference.

Interesting village located on a hill. At the highest point there is a church surrounded by buildings and further by fields.

there is a famous battlefield in montecchio for braziian army in II War, but it was located at north of firenze I guess.
lovey the rounded area of the medieval village surrounded by the plantations.
